Thank You!

11/25/2016

I do not have a major update at this time, but Marty was moved from ICU and into a regular room. He is being monitored and having tests run to see the severity of what has occurred. He right now is very weak and needs to rest and regain his strength.

Of course him being Marty Himes... he wants to go home already, but from what I have been told that he may be released within the next day or so if not sooner. But he will need to be watched closely.

When I have more information I will give an update. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes!

Bryan

11/23/2016

We do not have any other information beyond that he is stable and in the Southside Hospital ICU. When more info is available I will keep everyone updated.

Thank you!
Bryan

11/23/2016

This morning around 8am Marty Himes was transported to Southside Hospital. He had fallen and needed immediate medical attention.

We do not current have anymore information then what I am posting... so please do not ask or call the museum until further notice. We will keep everyone updated as soon as we have more information. He needs to rest and receive medical treatment as well as be looked after by his family... Please keep Marty in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Thank you!
Bryan

The beautiful sound of a 1956 Ford Victoria and a 324cu in. Y-...

At the Himes Museum, we are always busy maintaining the collection, the grounds, and just busy in our lives and with our guests. We often ( Mike Johnson & Bryan Johnson ) do not get the chance to post as much as we like but I had a chance to go through some pictures and videos and post this one in particular.

This is a quick video a couple months after we brought the 56 Ford Victoria home from Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac where the engine was rebuilt and installed (on my free time). Just a recap, the engine was last ran in 1962 in the 39 Ford Coupe driven by "Long" John Mileski with the #200. It is a 1957 Mercury Y-Block 312cu in. bored over 75 to 324 cu in. with a 3.875" bore x 3.44" stroke. It has JE dome top pistons, a Giovanni cam, Mallory YC distributor, Sheifer flywheel, Carter 3214S carburetor, and a set of Offenhauser valve covers, plus many modifications, most original to when it last ran.

The engine runs great! however the draft tube was welded back in the 1960's, and as a result the engine cannot vent positive crankcase pressure and instead causes blowby past the rings and oil smoke at idle. There are ways around this issue, but we have not come up with a viable solution as of yet. We do have 2 donor Y-blocks, which are smaller cu in. and a lot less storied, but will have to replace this engine if the smoking issue cannot be repaired.

A couple other minor things that need doing on the car also include a set of 4 tires (the RF is literally cracking at the edge of the tread from cornering at many old timers reunions in the past), the radiator has a few major leaks which prevents the car from running too long without leaking, a small oil leak from a torn external oil pump gasket, and a bendix in the starter that needs to be replaced. I have done 90% of this work myself including rebuilding this engine and getting it running, and have received small donations and a few helping hands from those who frequent the museum, but this is all out of pocket, and on my own time. Donations are always welcome at the museum and are vital to the museums survival as my grandfather Marty relies on visitors to keep this place going. Every dollar he makes/donations goes into keeping the memory of racing history on Long Island alive and it is very important that we save as much history as we can. If it happened on Long Island, we probably have a piece of it!

Marty and I at the last reunion (2018)
The Himes Museum of Motor Racing Nostalgia you're on the map of automotive museums to visit in the US!
Thanks for all you do !.....remembering "Bumpin Bob Viala"
I grew up in Bay Shore back in the 50's and I remember going to Islip around 1955 - 1957. My dad had a buddy that raced open cockpit cars (midgets) back then and he owned a gas station in town. I think his name was Harry Hevenstreet or something like it. I still remember how much fun we had, it was a great time to be alive in that town. The WW-II vets were just a bit crazy and we called them daredevils.
