A couple little birdies told me there has been some reminiscing of Ellsworth restaurants of yesteryear going around and asked that we share some photos. Your wish is my command!

Ellsworth's Little Grand Cafe, the first photo Carlton Ryden in front of the cafe posing with his taxi. The second photo, Carlton, wife Edna and daughters Carleen and Marleen, 1962. The third photo taken in 1945 when the Little Grand Cafe building was relatively new, it was built in 1940.

To learn more about this building and others in Ellsworth, you can buy our Volume 10 of Pierce County's Heritage on Ellsworth & Ellsworth Township on our website.

I thought a poem about Maiden Rock needed a proper place to be displayed. This Fred Johnson photo, donated by Ed Sjostrom, seems to be a match made in heaven. The poem was taken from the 1956 Centennial Scrapbook of Maiden Rock on temporary loan to us from Harriet Rothe.

A few months back, someone came into the office with Cobian family roots. They were hoping we had the original photo of one she had seen in a book. The one they had seen before was like the first photo, we did have the original photo on file and they were pleased to see there was much more to the photo! (second photo) The version used in the book had been cropped. What a lucky find! I love these photos where the whole family poses in front of the house/property with all the kids and some animals.

I have been using some of my extra time at home doing ancestry research for some family members and friends. Anyone else doing ancestry research during the #stayathome order? If researching a Pierce County family, what surname are you researching?

I saw that Ancestry. com can be used for free via your library account and a FamilySearch account is always free.

Looking for an ambassador from each town/village/city in Pierce County to help document the impact of COVID-19 on your area to add to our archives. Looking for people that are willing to commit to taking local photos of signs, empty main streets and such. Also requesting they keep a journal focused on impact to their community. Either just written by them or they could coordinate with others to work collectively.

Please private message me or email at [email protected] if interested.

Thank you!

UPDATE: Those went fast! I'm out of printed journals, I can get more printed next week for more orders. Message or email me! [email protected]

I've got four more Family History Journals ready to mail! They are printed on ivory paper that is archival quality. Free to the first ones that claim them! You can also request it in an email to print at home. I've included pics of a few of the pages. A great way to help pass this time at home for our older parents and grandparents. I think a page a day would be fun!

Update: I've got the journal pages completed and are ready to share. I can send a few more out via mail for free, otherwise I just ask for $5 to help cover printing & shipping. I can email them to you, too!

In case people are interested - I am working on putting together some family history journal pages that are meant for grandparents to fill out to capture some of the more personal memories that you can't find on the ancestry search sites. It will also be special to have these details in their own handwriting for generations to come. I thought they might help some of our parents and grandparents that are self-isolating at home pass the time.

**If you are interested in receiving a packet via mail printed on acid free paper, please send a private message with the name and address of the recipient. I would prefer to mail it directly to the person to avoid the extra contact of delivering in person. We'll mail out the first 10 for free and then I'd ask for $5 to cover printing, shipping and postage. I am aiming to be ready to mail some out starting Friday of this week. If you wish to receive the templates via email, I can send those to you for free as a PDF, just private message me your email address.

Once our office opens back up, we can scan these completed journal pages for you so they can be preserved and shared with other family members.

CAUTION: Please do not put people's names and addresses or email addresses in the public comments. Please use messenger. You can also email me at [email protected].
