***VOLUNTEERS NEEDED***

We are putting out a call for adult volunteers, perhaps members of the society, or anyone from the public, to help us briefly early morning on Saturday. Our call for student volunteers has not been successful.

The duties include basically being "runners" for the organizers, and sometimes helping a vendor unload a vehicle or set up a pop up tent.

The time we would need you is from 6am- to about 10am. The hours are early, we recognize that, so your help is greatly appreciated. In appreciation, we can offer complimentary coffee, other drinks, and snacks.

If you're not doing anything early Saturday morning, and can help us, please call or text Rick Bates at 607-377-1597.

The Twisted Sip is a fun drinks "food truck" that will be providing unique non-alchoholic, hand-crafted drinks to our patrons this Saturday. They feature Dirty Sodas, Loaded Red Bulls, Fancy Lemonades, Iced Lattes and more for your refreshment pleasure!

Make sure to visit Pulteney Square on this Saturday, Sept 5th from 9am-5pm for our big history fair, with musical performances, military reeenactors, historical performers, and great food options, too!

When Charles Williamson selected the site for Bath in 1793, he started clearing the open space that has since become Pulteney Park. Charles deliberately left a single tall pine (in the distance), and named it the Liberty Tree, celebrating America’s independence. The tree is long gone, of course, but on Saturday we’ll be back in Captain Williamson’s open square, celebrating the 250th anniversary for America’s independence. (The tall pine isn’t the only symbol of freedom. On that bridge the enslaved Austin Steward encountered attorney Daniel Cruger and started asking questions, setting in motion Steward’s successful escape in the following year.)

We'd like to welcome three local Steuben County chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well a chapter of Children of the American Revolution with us at our Steuben 250 Celebration on Saturday. They will be providing a display teaching us about the Charters of Freedom (Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, Bill of Rights). They will also be providing patriotic coloring pages for kids to color in there! The current President of the Children of the American Revolution that will be present

This Week’s “On the Farm” miniseries visits the days when draft animals were vital to just about any farming family. Here we see harrowing, near Hornell; a load of hay, near Jasper; an ox-drawn wagon, at Bath’s Pulteney Square; and horse teams hauling sledges, at a logging site in Greenwood.

***PUBLIC PARKING*** for the America 250 event this Saturday, Sept. 5th.

We are anticipating a large crowd for our event, which is good of course, but it does bring up the issue of parking. The map below shows open parking in green, and parking that is not available to the general public in red.

Green - Liberty Street, the big lot behind business along Liberty Street on the east side, and the east side of the County Office Building.

Red - behind the Presbyterian Church, behind the Annex Building of the Steuben County offices. These lots are blocked off for vendors only.

The new parking lot created where Steuben Bowling Academy was will be blocked off early in the morning, to be used as possible overflow for the Vintage Car Show. Should that not be needed however, it will be opened up to the public around noon.

Any other parking spots are left up for you to find, provided you follow standard Village of Bath, NY Municipal Government parking rules.

In 1929 the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated a monument in Bath’s Pulteney Square, celebrating the community and its founder, Charles Williamson… who left his homeland to fight in the Revolution… but on the other side! Still, that was all history by Bath’s founding in 1793. From 9 to 5 on Saturday, September 5, there will be an “America 250” celebration in Pulteney Square, with re-enactors, choirs, exhibits, historic demonstrations, food trucks, and more. Join us!

Rick Leisenring will be with us selling and signing his new Civil War book "Elmira: The Civil War Prison Camp in Photographs", as well as his book on GlenN Curtiss motorcycles, "Curtiss Motorcyles: 1902-1912. He will also be bringing a collection of his Civil War era muskets to show.

By the way, there will be an actual 1908 Curtiss Motorcycle at our event for you to see up and close. It will be located near the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum booth at the event.
