Summer is still going strong and we have another incredible week of programming lined up at MDM! 🌞 This week we are painting with salt and watercolors, digging for buried treasure at our Excavation Station, meeting our live reptile friends, buzzing about honeybees, and building sandcastles that will never get washed away!

🎉 This Saturday, join us for Infinity Day! ♾️

We're celebrating as part of Infinite Sums, a nationwide initiative from the Simons Foundation's Science, Society & Culture division inviting people to reconnect with math in joyful, creative ways. Think: the rhythm in music, the spirals in nature, the shapes in storytelling and movement. Math is everywhere, and it's wonderful!

Another awesome week of fun and engaging daily programming here at MDM! This week we are making shark pins, capturing light with prisms and UV reactive materials, engineering a marble spill cleanup tool, building paper lighthouses, and of course welcoming our live reptile friends on Thursday. We promise no dinosaurs were injured in the making of this mini city during last week's summer camp... though a few may have been relocated. 🦖🏙️

We have some incredibly exciting news to share!

Our director, Kate Dickerson, and our board president, Shane Mallory, just got back from Washington D.C., where Maine Discovery Museum was awarded the 2025 Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Medal, the highest honor a museum can receive, and we are proud to share that we are the first museum in Maine to receive this recognition in the award's 30-year history. Past recipients have described winning this award as the equivalent of a Super Bowl, an Oscar, or an Olympic Gold Medal, and honestly, that is exactly how it feels. This honor is a tribute to ALL that MDM has accomplished in our 25 years and the vast number of people who have been part of MDM.

A gigantic thank you to our original founders, our board of directors (current and past), our partners and colleagues, supporters, patrons, and our team today. You're national medal winners with us! 🎉🏅
