The Slate Belt Heritage Center was built in 1907 and originally served as the town hall, council chambers, borough offices, and fire department for the town of Bangor, Pennsylvania. In The Heritage Center you can take a guided tour, research historical information, research ancestry, and enjoy the well preserved artifacts of the Slate Belt.

Great news SBHC fans, we will now be doing winter hours. The Heritage Center will be open Sundays November through March 12pm-3pm (excluding holidays and inclement weather)!

Tonight at the Bangor Area Senior High Graduation, Leon Calviero, a 91 year old WWII veteran who never received his diploma after being drafted will be awarded his diploma after all these years. Mr. Reinhart, the principle at the high school was told about Mr. Calviero through one of our own Slat Belt Heritage Center volunteers. Mr. Calviero has WWII letters from 1942 currently on display at the Heritage Center. Congrats to Mr. Calviero!
