Did you know?
This wool and cotton blend blanket was used in the Civil War by Peter Tibado (Thibodeaux) of Orono, a private in Company B of the First Maine Heavy Artillery. Some of the holes are from bullets fired by a sniper while Tibado was asleep. He survived the war and died in 1913 at the age of 81.

In remembrance of the founding father's of the Bangor Historical Society we list them here: The Honorable Samuel H. Dale (pictured) was elected the organization's first chairman. Charles S. Fellows was named Secretary. Other members included Elijah L. Hamlin, Jacob McGaw, Joseph Carr, John E. Godfrey, and James C. Weston.

Come along with us as we celebrate the United States' 250th birthday with a special Revolutionary walk through Bangor's historic Mount Hope Cemetery. Explore the fascinating stories of those buried there who took part in the Revolution and of the families whose legacies shaped Conduskeag Plantation (Bangor) before 1800.
Tour Dates: July 5th at 10am, July 25th at 6pm, August 16th at 10am, September 8th at 6pm,
September 13th at 10am.

Tickets go on sale at noon on Tuesday, June 23rd.

This walking tour lasts approximately an hour and a half and covers some hilly terrain. Appropriate attire and water are encouraged.

This tour meets at the Superintendent’s Lodge at Mt. Hope Cemetery, accessed by the 1048 State Street gate, Bangor.

Tickets are $12 per person.

In case of inclement weather, tours will be canceled if there is a chance of thunderstorms, but not if only rain is in the forecast.

Tickets must be purchased ahead of time.
Tickets for the 6 PM tour may be purchased until Noon on the day of the tour. Tickets for the 10 AM tour may be purchased until 6 PM the previous evening.

Our tours will be capped at 20 guests.

Today is Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. When Union Troops in Galveston, Texas, led by Major General Gordon Granger, announced the emancipation of the enslaved African Americans throughout the state of Texas on June 19, 1865. Celebrations of Juneteenth would eventually spread around Texas, the south, and the rest of the country in the following years. In 2021, it became a federal holiday.

This tea tray is from the home of David Sears of Watertown, Massachusetts. George Washington was served tea from this tray when he visited Boston. It is made from cherry with 2 brass handles. Today is Flag Day.
Horatio Staples of Bangor, a sergeant in Company G of the 2nd Maine received this gift of a regimental flag. Staples, fought in both battles of Bull Run and was enlisted from May 1861 until June 1863.
Sgt. William J. Deane of Bangor of Company A carried the flag for the regiment.
