I got the Ortelius out of its nasty old frame. Thankfully not glued down. Apppears to be the 1595 edition with old but not original hand coloring. Sheet size of 17 by 21 inches. Latin text on back. The title translates to Journeys of the Patriarch Abraham . The twenty round vignettes surrounding the map itself set it above most period maps of Israel. The Map House of London refers to it as “one of the most celebrated of Ortelius' maps of the Holy Land” .

Centerfold as issued. Old but later hand coloring as mentioned. Margin tear upper left. Old brown tape on margin backs ( I will likely remove that once I get a chance). Age toning . Properly matted and framed I am sure this piece will display very handsomely.

My research found a number of examples on the market priced between $1800 and $5000. I’m tagging this one $1650.

On my trip to Arizona I of course spent some time antiques picking. Bought a few posters and some other fun stuff and then picked up this. Ortelius circa 1590 hand colored engraving depicting the life and travels of Abraham the patriarch. The high end maps dealers put $2000-3000 on these. I'll be shooting a bit lower but very happy to have found this very beautiful 425 year old map. Yes it is worth going through shop after shop after shop. I will post better photos on my return. These were shot in the back of my van .

The shop will be open this weekend May 9-10 : 11:00 to 6:00. We will be closed the following two weekends as I do a business and pleasure trip to Tucson Arizona . I will be be delivering items, antique picking , seeing a few old friends and doing the Antiques Roadshow. I will keep you informed of what I find.

Hint - the weekend before a trip is an excellent time to get better prices from me as I’m looking for extra funds for buying . My markup is too uneven for me to do an across the board percentage off sale but I will be open to discounting in general.
