Baltimore photographers, we want to see YOUR work! 📸

We're now accepting submissions for the Flashback Open Call, a rotating presentation celebrating diverse photographic perspectives on life here in Baltimore. We’re looking for work that captures the complexity, beauty, and lived experience of the city—particularly from photographers who haven't had extensive professional exhibition opportunities.

Up to 20 selected photographers will have their work displayed at the Museum and BMA Lexington Market alongside the upcoming exhibition Flashback: Two Centuries of Baltimore Photography.

✨ Learn more and submit your application by July 26 at artb.ma/4wWa0ht.

At the heart of the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence, France, is The Stations of the Cross—a striking mural that breaks from the artist’s signature use of vibrant colors into bold, expressive black lines charged with emotion. Matisse in Vence: The Stations of the Cross spotlights over 80 drawings that trace his creative process.

This richly decorated mask personifies Woot (pronounced wote), remembered in oral histories as the ancestor and first king of the Kuba Kingdom in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The long, curved head ornament is meant to look like an elephant’s trunk, since the elephant is a royal emblem, and beaded strips around the crown of the head represent tusks. White beads and cowrie shells signify Woot’s wealth and purity.

We’re excited to announce the selection of Anoushka Mirchandani for the third year of the Sherman Family Foundation Residency in Maine! 🎉

Mirchandani uses painting to confront the complexities of identity across shifting contexts—an ongoing process of locating and relocating her sense of self following her emigration from India to the United States in 2006. Over the past decade, the San Francisco-based artist has been exploring the layered nature of selfhood with paintings centered on figures suspended between repose and action—often women posed with quiet confidence, unbothered by expectations of modesty or restraint.

We're thrilled to make this announcement ahead of Mirchandani's New York solo institutional debut at The FLAG Art Foundation, opening Wednesday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m., and on view through July 31.
