A Vincent Price reference on Poe Baltimore's page? 🫢 Its more likely than you think... We're such massive fans of his work bringing Poe's stories to life. You'll be seeing a fair amount of his films in our media recommendations 😉 (Pst - Did you know this Masque of the Red Death film inspired out Black Cat Ball last year?🐈‍⬛🩸)

Epic Rap Battles of history was a staple for young internet goers in the 2010's. Through the years the team at ERB produced tons of rap battles pitting two well known historic figures against each other having the two duke it out with quick wit and exciting visuals. Poe features in a two minute heated battle with modern horror writer Steven King. Who do you think won? 🤣🔮

NO! 🐦‍⬛‼️In reality Poe was someone who, like a lot of us, struggled with mental health.
This quote comes from Rufus Griswold in Poe’s obituary. Griswold was a known detractor of Poe and in his writing of Poe’s obituary filled it with character assassinations and falsehoods.

May is mental health awareness month, and words like "crazy" and "mad" get thrown a lot especially with Edgar Allan Poe. He had a very adverse childhood, lived in poverty and saw many of his loved ones pass away. He likely did struggle with his mental health, but the continued descriptions of him as a madman who's insanity was the foundation of his craft is unfortunate. He was a creative and talented author on his own merit.

Wednesday took the internet by storm in 2022, but did you catch all of the allusions to Poe and his works in the show? Clearly some Poe fans were in the writing room as the show constantly refers to his work (Nevermore Academy 🐦‍⬛ is the name of the school after all !) and even shows the man himself as one of the fictional school's alumni!

Happy mothers day to all of the wonderful moms out there with us and departed. We want to share one of Poe's sonnets (a form he didn't often use) today. 🖤💀

Edgar Allan Poe has an unfortunate pattern in his life of maternal figures leaving his life too soon. His mother, Eliza Poe, died in 1811 when he was two years old. 🐦‍⬛

He was taken in by his foster parents John and Frances "F***y" Allan soon after and F***y Allan was very fond of Edgar. She doted on him, but passed away in 1829 when he was 20. 🐈‍⬛
He wrote this short poem and published in 1846 devoted to his mother-in-law Maria Clemm who took care of him and his wife Virginia. She can be accredited as a major reason for Poe starting his writing career and his eventual success. This poem was popular on mother's day cards in the 1920-40's but still holds true today.🔮
