Been witnessing a lot of the magic in our beautiful planet earth these last few weeks, both in sunrises & sunsets. This doesn’t do it justice of course.

I know I’ve been super quiet on here lately too. Haven’t posted much in quite awhile except for a few stories when I’ve been at – which has been super good for my soul driving up there, this sunset was on my way up there from Bmore.

Also there’s a lot of change going on in my life and as I’ve been processing it, I felt the need to be quiet and go inward. This pandemic has turned a lot of things I did – like teaching yoga, running my studio, and being an extroverted-opening-throwing curator – on it’s head. And that’s been hard.

One of the changes I made is that I took a short term job to be with community, & to help serve my community better, since there was a need and I was asked to do so, I thought why not. And so, I’ve spent the past month teaching as a long term substitute art teacher at Randallstown High. Hence seeing all the amazing sunrises since I pretty much get up in the dark, which allows me to witness the beauty of the dawn rising. It’s also been an adjustment, I’m learning a ton, sharing what I know from my life’s experiences, and enjoying it for the most part 95% of the time. I’ve still continued to show and sell work, and even managed to de-install and reinstall part of a collector’s collection (over 60 photos & paintings) as their home was being freshly painted. And that was quite exciting 🤩!! And oh the fun times I’ve had painting and hanging out with & on my weekends off.

So life has been really good, I have felt blessed to be where I’m at. I’m moving out of the darkness and into the light. Hope to share more of the work I’m doing here and maybe some photos too of past projects as I felt like I went into hibernation mode and despite it being fall, I’m ready to re-emerge and share the beauty I see in this world with you. Much love, J

Today I practiced in the rain, outdoors with my teacher. There were six of us, seven including her. It was a magical time, moving, breathing, chanting, listening to the birds singing and feeling the soft droplets of water kiss our faces as we lay amongst the old oak trees in the sundial grove of Druid Hill Park. This practice of mine is pivotal to how the rest of my day unfolds. Grateful to be with my tribe of women who practice this, ta***ic kundalini, and who can feel the energy shift within themselves and around us. Am so grateful to this Mama who showed up on Mother’s Day to share her gifts and teachings with us. Thanks MM 🙏🏼❤️

To all the mama’s out there, including my own – Happy Mother’s Day. And even though we are far apart I am holding you deep in my heart ♥️. I love you mom. Xoxo

I want to return to this quiet place in my mind. To this walk along the beach, only hearing the waves gently rolling in lapping over my toes cold grains of sand under my feet. A January morning and the dawn of a new day, new year even ahead of me. What will I accomplish in this period of time. I think to myself and to the greater universe, I hope it’s better than the last one that I just barely made it through. The early sunrise gives me hope, even just being here gives me this sense of faith that I’m in the right place, on the right path, that I will have the year I dream of and I’m being guided by my dharma, by the energies that I surround myself with, that are greater than me. I have faith and love in my heart for the dawning of this new day and the ones that will follow. And I think of what my teachers have taught me. Ishvara Pranidhana. And I surrender to it. I am breathed.

One of the twelve works by that’s on view in Remote Collections through Intimate Connections which opens this Saturday January 30 We’ll be having an Opening Viewing Day from 1–6pm. Artists include: Jordan Faye Block, Lawrence Cromwell, , , , , & Justyn Michael Zolli.

As an artist and curator, this pandemic definitely shifted my practice and so as I stopped teaching yoga classes, hosting events, planning exhibitions, & going out with friends – I had to turn inward. And so I began to make a lot of work. Making these small meditation paintings became a part of my weekly studio ritual. They were cathartic. So I asked a number of artists whose work I am intimately familiar with what they were doing, what are you making, has it shifted things for you or not? This show is a culmination of those responses. In a few instances you can see what an artist did pre-pandemic to then what they made during the pandemic. I invite you to explore the exhibition and work by these seven artists. The exhibition runs through February 27, 2021. Eubie Blake Cultural Center is located at 847 N. Howard St. Baltimore, MD 21202. Gallery hours are Wed – Fri 1–6pm Sat 11–5pm and by appt.
