Transit arrives at a moment when the language of displacement has become uncomfortably familiar.

Bringing together fifteen years of work across video, text, embroidery, and bodily material, Julia Kim Smith confronts the material realities of race, labor, citizenship, and belonging. Refusing metaphor, these works bear witness to accumulated violences—casual, institutional, and intimate—inscribed on the body and in everyday life.

Join Julia Kim Smith ( ) and Waller Gallery for an Artist & Curator Walk-Through and experience the work firsthand.

Our very own Joy Davis is on the level — and BmoreArt captures exactly why. From founding Waller Gallery to shaping Baltimore’s creative ecosystem through Creative Alliance, Joy’s work is rooted in mentorship, access, and building spaces where artists can truly grow.

This conversation dives into her nonlinear path, her values, and the way she’s redefining what “success” even means—while pushing boundaries from Baltimore all the way to Rotterdam through Walk On By.

Happening this Friday! ✨
Join us for the opening of Transit featuring (Baltimore, MD)—a multidisciplinary artist whose work confronts racism, sexism, misrepresentation, and underrepresentation through both traditional and new media. The daughter of Korean refugees who immigrated to the United States after the Korean War, she describes herself as a small, angry, and sometimes funny Asian American woman.
