National Bottle Museum National Bottle Museum preserves the history of America's first major industry, glass manufacturing

NBM preserves the history of glass bottle manufacturing with an emphasis on the handmade era. All bottles were mouth blown until the Automatic Bottle Machine was patented by Michael Owens in 1903. Each factory produced millions of bottles using blow pipes, molds, hand tools, and lung-power, making it the first real mass-producing industry in the United States, predating the founding of the nation.

In our latest Bottleside Chat, Adam discusses the significance of a Civil War era Union Clasped Hands Calabash flask (GIV-42). This historical flask just happens to be the prize in the bottle raffle that will take place at the 46th Annual Saratoga Antique Bottle Show & Sale on Saturday, May 31 at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at the museum before the show and of course at the show.

We haven't recorded a Bottleside Chat in a while. Would you like to see them more frequently? Are there particular types of bottles on which you'd like to see us focus?

It's a quiet weekend out in bottle land, so we'll take this opportunity to promote the upcoming 46th Annual Saratoga Antique Bottle Show and Sale on May 31, at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds. This will be our largest show in over two decades with over 50 vendors and 85 tables sold.

If you’re considering being a vendor at the show, please get your contract for indoor table space in by this Friday May 22nd for an indoor table, or by the following Thursday for outside space with your tables. We’ve had an outstanding response this year from our regular dealers and many new people coming into the show.

We will hold two bottle raffles at the show. One for an aqua Civil War era “Union” Clasped Hands Calabash quart flask (GIV – 42), produced by the A.R. Samuels Glasshouse of Philadelphia, PA. Tickets at the show are $3 each or two for $5. They can also be purchased at the National Bottle Museum as of now.

The second raffle for a pristine emerald Congress Springs “C” Saratoga pint bottle is only for museums members. All members in good standing are automatically entered for a chance to win. (This would be a good time to join the National Bottle Museum https://nationalbottlemuseum.org/join/).

Winners need not be present at the time of the drawings.
