Walk In My Shoes- our newest exhibit debuted this afternoon. Stories bring the people and their shoes to life. We have shoes dating over a 100 year period! High-top button shoes, logger boots, golf shoes, shoes made of wood, Miami sandals and much more. Even a pair of Andy Horujko’s boots he wore on his 12,000 mile walk are included in the exhibit. Come check out this brand new exhibit. Museum hours: Wednesday-Saturdays, noon to 4:00pm. Free admission! 915 N Michigan Avenue, Baldwin.

Another of the 7 lap quilts created as part of the museum’s Grand 250th Community Quilt
Project is now on display at the Pathfinder Community Library in downtown Baldwin. This quilt named America The Beautiful is representative of the 7 quilts that will be raffled off November 11th at the Lake County Historical Museum. Thanks to Bonnie and Angela for agreeing to display the quilt and to sell raffle tickets. $5 each or 3 for $10.

Spooky stories and more at the Ghost Towns and Graveyards of Lake County program October 21st. Come dressed as the undead if you are willing, and participate in the tales told by the Gravedigger (played by Bruce Micinski). Ghastly histories and stories of Civil War graves, pauper's graves, African American graveyards, Native Spirits and ghost towns will be shared. Free program begins at 6:00 p.m. Community Room and Sharing Table opens at 5:30 p.m. Lake County Historical Museum, 915 N Michigan Avenue, Baldwin. If our main parking lot entrance is blocked with M-37 road construction - come in our driveway off Eighth Street. See you on the 21st!

The Grand 250th Community Quilt Project lap quilts are on parade! The Heartfelt Community quilt is on display at Fabric Peddler and Small Town America quilt is on display at Pandora’s Box. Thanks to all the ladies who created the quilt squares, the volunteers who assembled the quilts and Jamie at Fabric Peddler for her donation of longarm quilting services. In addition, community members who were not seamstresses made financial donations to offset the cost of backing/sashing fabric and batting. All proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets goes to the museum for future programs and exhibits. Tickets can be purchased at Fabric Peddler, Pandora’s Box and the Lake County Historical Museum, all in Baldwin. $5 each or 3 for $10. Program and Drawing on November 11, 6:00 pm. at the Museum.

Our Pere Marquette River denim shirts are available again in the Lake County Historical Museum gift shop. The embroidered shirts were obtained from M-37 Creative Co here in Baldwin. Both men’s and women’s sizes. Small to Large $60, with X-Large to 3X-Large $65. Wonderful for these brisk mornings we’ve had the last few days. Gift shop is open during regular museum hours: Wednesday-Saturday, noon to 4:00 pm. Free admission.

Last two weeks to check out the museum’s Clean Sweep and Winter Sports exhibits before they are gone. October 1st the museum staff will be working hard to bring you two new exhibits that will open later in the month. Come visit and see how your ancestors cleaned house, and played in the winter snows. Museum hours: Wednesday-Saturday, noon toe 4:00 pm. Free admission.

Just added a couple of additional photos!

A great program last night at the museum. Mysteries at the Museum highlighted five curious artifacts that have been donated to the museum. The civil war saber drew the most attention. It belonged to Amos Joseph Lorenger who served the entire duration of the war. The audience found the stories behind each of the postal novelties interesting, especially the mailing of children through the US Postal Service. This was legal between 1913 and 1915, due to a legal loophole. Other artifacts that were presented were documents from Mr. De Rajah’s life, a possible 1950s reproduction of a double barrel telescope, and an 1880s balance beam scale used by Dr Earl Fairbanks of Luther when he began practicing there in 1888. Great desserts were offered on the Sharing Table and you could purchase raffle tickets to win one of the seven lap quilts made by museum friends in honor of America’s 250th Anniversary. All seven were on display for the program. Thanks to all who attended!
