WANTED: People who enjoy welcoming visitors to the Museum, working in a Historic site, and volunteering one or two days per m
onth. WHAT IS A DOCENT? According to Webster, a Docent is a tour guide at a museum. Docents play a vital role in the life of the Museum, welcoming visitors, giving tours, cataloguing archives, working on exhibits, keeping records, and doing small repairs. What you do depends on where your interest lies! GENERAL DOCENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteer one or two days per month in you is area of interest, usually from two (2) to six (6) hours, depending on your availability. DOCENT CATEGORIES:
Key Docents: Welcome visitors at the visitors desk at the Museum entrance, have them sign the guest register, give basic directions if needed, encourage donations and membership, respond to phone enquiries. You train with an experienced Key Docent to learn the basics. Office Docents: These Docents do record keeping for the Museum, helping to keep track of our weekly revenues, attendance, and tours. Project Docents: These volunteers work on Museum projects like improving or maintaining the permanent exhibits, cataloguing archival material, organizing the Museum library/research area, and assisting the Museum Curator with new Museum exhibits. Research Docents: These Docents respond to request for information from Museum visitors through their own knowledge by researching the Museum library/research area. When: Call the Museum office at (626) 214-1620 and ask for Bob Benbow. An orientation will be scheduled and then, depending on your area of interest, a training program with an experienced Docent will be set up. Museum Info: The Museum is located in the old Central School Auditorium. It is now the Permanent home for the Museum. The Old Central Auditorium has been refurbished and is now The Arts and Recreation Center for the City Of Baldwin Park. It is located at 14403-B E. Pacific Avenue, Baldwin Park, CA 91706
