Badin Historic Museum mourns the recent loss of two original board members.

Gloria Saunders brought her teaching skills to all she touched. She corrected the grammar on exhibits and catalogued our collection with her usual attention to detail. Gloria will be missed. She passed away September 26. Memorials can be sent to Taylor House.

Jane Harrison passed on October 5 after a long stay at Spring Harbor. Jane contributed her artist’s eye to work she accomplished. She designed exhibits, logos and signs for the museum. It was her collegiate research that ultimately resulted in our Badin Theatre book. Jane will be missed.

Badin Historic Museum is proud to announce the launch of a new FREE tour app for Badin! We've partnered with the STQRY App storytelling platform to create these experiences that we hope will enable everyone to enjoy this lovely town and its rich history. The three tours of historic Badin can be viewed from home on a computer or via the app downloaded onto a smart phone. The first tour is a walking tour which includes an interactive map that will lead you through the streets of Badin and includes historic photos, oral history audios, and detailed narratives. But all three tours take you on a journey you can even enjoy from home. See the graphic for QR codes to download the app, and also the web address to view on a computer browser.

The Spark Plug Trail has officially joined out to Seagrove — proof: our marker has landed at famed Phil Morgan Pottery. Looks like the Spark Plug knows good craftsmanship when it sees it... and maybe wanted a little crystalline glaze on the side.

Phil Morgan has built a national reputation for his mastery of crystalline-glazed porcelain, one of pottery’s most technically demanding forms. His hand-thrown work has drawn collectors nationwide and has been featured on national television, including Good Morning America. His pottery has also earned museum recognition, helping establish him as one of Seagrove’s most respected ceramic artists and ambassadors of North Carolina’s pottery tradition.

The Spark Plug, a 1924 self-propelled railcar built by Edwards in Sanford, NC, ran on the Yadkin RR from Norwood to Badin, Albemarle, and Salisbury.

The Spark Plug expressed delight to be recognized near its birthplace with enthusiastic blasts from its Westinghouse dual airhorns.

Visit Badin. Visit Seagrove.

Badin Snow Days! Thank you to Dall Wilson for capturing images of several iconic Badin structures. The trestle located at our Waterfront Park is seen from several angles. The easily recognizable Badin Baptist Church can be seen across the snowy field from the park. We love having a recent picture of a snow covered downtown looking from the area of the Museum and Post Office. Stop by the Museum today, we'll be open our regular Sunday hours from 2-5. The Museum is also open Tuesdays 9-12 and 1-3.
