The great musician and songwriter Chip Taylor moved to Austin in the late 1990s to resurrect his musical career. He met Carrie Rodriguez at SXSW in 2001 and continued to perform his Americana brand of music for a new generation. RIP.

If you’ve signed up, this is a friendly reminder that this event is happening Tuesday, March 24, 7PM.

Hosted by Preservation Austin, the evening will feature Texas Music Museum's esteemed Board Vice President, Dr. Jason Mellard, who will be giving a talk on Austin’s historic music sites. It’s sure to be an engaging and insightful program.

🎶 Join us on March 24 for our next Preservation Austin Talk, "Austin Revolutions per Minute: Music History Sites in the Live Music Capital" with Jason Mellard, Director of the Center for Texas Music History and Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of History at Texas State University.

We'll explore the meaning of Austin Music, from legendary venues still a part of the city’s urban fabric to alleys, bars, and homes vanished long ago. In the process, we’ll get a sense of how history and public memory reverberate in an ever-changing city and think through our responsibilities as historic preservationists who are also music fans.

We are grateful to our 2026 Educational Programs Presenting Sponsor, Moreland Properties, for making this event possible.
