On February 14, TAG staff and partners hosted a private workshop for U.S. military veterans, artists, and TAG staff to engage creatively with ceramic bomb sculptures made by artist and ACC faculty member Thomas Holton. Participants were invited to draw and write on the surfaces of the objects using acrylic markers and oil pastels to transform the sculptures through a process of collective mark-making. The veterans were encouraged to bring their perspectives and interpretations to the project, to allow for them to visually manifest new ideas or sentiments on these symbols of war and destruction. 💭 Did you know artworks can have many different meanings to many different people? 🤯 Explore this with ACC students on March 11 in Gallery 2000!

Through Our Eyes: Student Voices in the Gallery will be held on March 11, 3:00pm - 4:30pm in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450). During this program, ACC ART 1301 students will present their own interpretations and analyses of the artworks on view in Exploring Uncertainty: An Interactive Exhibition. The artworks and student presentations will include broad topics such as environmental, societal, and political uncertainty, making space for multiple perspectives, self-introspection, and community reflection. Please RSVP in the link in our bio!

About the exhibition:

Uncertainty can create tension, unsettled feelings, and can produce hesitation and confusion. Uncertainty can also be met with interest and used as a tool to embrace the unknown, even prompting exploration and discovery. Navigating uncertainty, from within and without, through the creative process, reveals how instability can lead to unexpected outcomes or alter the way we view the world.
Developed in tandem with ACC Faculty, this exhibition features artworks by ACC Studio Art faculty shown alongside works by students, alumni, and Austin-based artists. Thematic interactive stations are included to provide creative and generative spaces for gallery visitors to explore uncertainty through collaborative visual experiences and shared artistic expression.

Exploring Uncertainty is a two-part interactive art exhibition. Part one (Fall 2025) explores the internal and unseen responses to uncertainty. Part two (Spring 2026) investigates the uncertainties sustained from external pressures.Whether uncertainty is self-created or imposed, the exhibition uncovers a place where doubt and curiosity can co-exist.

Art + Performance (3/5) is coming this week! 🎭 Join us in Gallery 2000 at 5:00pm to catch this satirical performance. Keep reading to learn more ⤵

Participants will investigate overlaps between visual art and dramatic performance. During this session, audience members will learn more about the artworks on view and watch a satirical performance by ACC students using the historical quotes found in artworks by Brian Johnson and Kevin Auer in "Exploring Uncertainty: An Interactive Art Exhibition."

About the artworks:

Printmakers Kevin Auer and Brian Johnson collaborated to create this series of printed broadsides that examine social and political propaganda during times of tension and division in American history. To begin this process, the artists independently researched historic materials from North America and Europe from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, with special focus on the fragile times surrounding the American Revolution (1765-1783). They collected inflammatory quotes, political cartoons and propaganda, and bold typographic elements that mirror issues seen in current events.

By selecting the format of the broadside, the artists pay homage to this historic media that often blends text and images, while satirizing how the transferring of ideas can be manipulated by visual design. Through a combination of quotes, typefaces, and iconic images, they provide a new artistic experience for the viewer, one that remakes or reimagines those contexts that may mimic our own. Uncertainty becomes apparent as the viewer pushes back against the direct and forthrightness of the messages in the works, perhaps, questioning the validity of what is being presented.
