How lucky we are, to have grown up in an age where our toys grew up with us. As a child of the late 70s and 80s, I'm among the first generation of kids to ever play with and collect "action figures". Over time, playing gave way to collecting and eventually evolved into "improving". By improving, I mean modifying existing figures to correct what I perceived as an inaccuracy in the paint job, or tak
ing an idea the manufacturer only delivered at 80% to 100%. What began as simple repaints, grew to part swapping, then modifications to the sculptures, to finally sculpting figures essentially from scratch. I draw, paint and sculpt but the toy customization hobby has become my primary artistic outlet. In the 20+ years I've been defacing toys and remaking them into one-of-a-kind art works, I've developed the confidence to take on just about any project. You'll see from the work in my gallery that I tend to favor projects where no figure has ever been commercially produced. I'm not above the more typical super hero genre, I just like finding properties that scream for a toy line but never got one. Basically I’m appeasing my inner 8 year old who always wished for toys the big companies couldn't be bothered with.
