ONE SHELL OF A GUESS!

How many fossilized shells are in the jar?

Each guess is just $1, and every guess is also a donation to the Aurora Fossil Museum. As a nonprofit museum, fundraisers like this help us sustain museum operations and continue providing educational experiences, exhibits, and hands-on opportunities for our visitors and community.

The prize? A 62" Giant Shark Plush!

The official shell count and winner will be announced at 3:00 PM on October 24, 2026.

If someone guesses the exact number, they win. If multiple people guess the exact number, those entries will be placed into a drawing. If no one guesses correctly, the closest guess within five shells above or below the actual count will win, with a drawing used to break any ties.

Every guess makes a difference, so take your best shot and help support fossil education at the Aurora Fossil Museum.

The Aurora Fossil Museum recently received a collection of fossilized Cow Shark teeth that were discovered over the years in our fossil pits. Sherry and Glen's donation was not only a rare gift, but it also included some interesting collection data. Sherry & Glen collected the Cow Shark tooth specimens during over 100 trips to the Aurora Fossil Museum over four years, with an estimated total search time of 1,500 hours. The couple also made their trips 2-day trips, which included fuel, food, lodging, shopping, and visiting other attractions. It’s very hard to put a dollar sign on the monetary value of their donation, but the time, travel, and effort are priceless. Not only did they visit us, but they also built friendships with other visitors and promoted the Aurora Fossil Museum during their 100 trips. We greatly appreciate Sherry and Glen's donation and their support as part of the Aurora Fossil Museum extended family!
