Beginning September 16, 2026, through March 2, 2027, the Aurora Fossil Museum will be open:

Wednesday–Sunday
9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

The museum will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Thanks to visitors from across the country, the Aurora Fossil Museum has now welcomed guests from 49 states. The only one left is:
Nebraska

We are also still looking for visitors from these 11 North Carolina counties:
Alleghany, Cherokee, Cleveland, Graham, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Northampton, Swain, Tyrrell, and Yancey.

Take the scenic route to your next fossil adventure!

The North Carolina Department of Transportation recently featured the Aurora Fossil Museum as a fun stop along the Aurora–Bayview Ferry route. Located just 10 minutes from the Aurora Ferry Terminal, the museum is the perfect addition to a day of exploring eastern North Carolina.

Enjoy the ferry ride, explore North Carolina’s prehistoric past, and dig for your own fossils in our outdoor pits.
