In the still life, Clay Vessels, the vessels act as fertility statues of times past. The different sizes of each pot speak toward a variety of experiences and individuality with room both for the poetic and the painful.

Pots and Pails continues the idea of the vessel as a potent metaphor for expectation and nourishment, a narrative somehow both fragile and resilient. There is hope in this symbol and yet there is an emptiness that also speaks, perhaps loudly for some.

"Keisha, the woman I painted in The Woman with Water, is an extraordinary life model. She was also the subject of a prior work of mine, Living Water.

"I can remember when I first started to paint Keshia. She had an iconic look that seemed to embody the strength and beauty found in women throughout history. In this piece, she carries a vessel that is continuously being replenished and emptied, symbolizing
the needs of her physical thirst and that which is deeper, her spirit.

"The question lingers in this painting: Can our thirst ever be quenched? The Woman with Water similarly explores the human search for wholeness and for that which supplies us with our sustenance, our purpose, and our endurance." –

The Quilt reflects voices from Alaskans who have shared their wisdom, insights and hopes to inspire understanding and change for future generations.
