Last night in Uptown New Orleans: new paintings by Gretchen Weller Howard and new sculpture by Billy Marchal, shown by Gallery Orange in a private home.

This is my favorite way to see art. Not on a white gallery wall, but leaning against a mantel next to a lamp, or standing in a garden at dusk. It’s the closest you’ll get to seeing how a piece will live in your own house.
