Athol Historical Society Museum open during events and by appointment. They formed the Athol Historical Society, which was incorporated
December 14, 1953. Mrs.

“Why do you struggle so mightily in the present for the immediate
future, if the struggle is not worthy of record? Where can these
records and relics be kept where they will be available to all, but
in the custody of an historical society dedicated to that
purpose?” – Howard Cooke, first president of the Athol Historical
Society. So thought a small group of citizens who gathered in the
direc

tors’ room of the Athol Co-operative Bank on July 25, 1953. Eida Limbach Waterman provided free
quarters to the Society until September 9, 1957, at which time
your Historical Society purchased from the Town of Athol, for one
dollar, the old Town Hall at the corner of Main and Liberty Streets. The second floor of the building houses the majority of our
museum items. We have many displays including military items,
clothing, furniture, photographs, books, and many items of local
interest. Our museum is open to the public every Sunday in June
and July from 1 PM until 3 PM.
