The Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery was founded with a mission to inspire confidence in people of all ages to discover the world. The museum provides STEAM(science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics)-based interactive, interdisciplinary exhibits, programming, and educational events throughout our community. OVMoD seeks to be a transformative hub for discovery-based, hands-on education, increasing access to and equity in informal learning opportunities by fostering collaborative educational partnerships in Southeast Ohio.

Teen Science Café is back at OVMoD! For our first meeting of the year we will be joined by Forensic Chemist Rebecca Barlag, Ph.D. Dr. Barlag. We will be doing a walk through of solving a case and learning about the science behind catching a criminal. No prior STEM experience needed. Anyone who is curious and willing to explore is welcome! Light snacks provided

Teen Science Café is a free, out-of-school program where teens and STEM professionals connect through conversations, interactive presentations, and hands-on experiences that explore exciting science topics. Each Café is unique to its community and led by teens, for teens, with the guidance of an adult leader. Follow to stay up to date on upcoming meet-up topics and presenters!

Did you know that the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery is available for birthday parties? On Saturday afternoons, we are happy to host groups of up to 30 with access to our party room and exhibit hall for 2 hours. Bring your own food, drinks, and decorations.

Thanks, Athens County Public Libraries, for having us at your Glouster and The Plains branches last week! We had a great time learning and experimenting. In Glouster we learned about the characteristics of different types of plastic, and in The Plains we put on some gloves and dissected some owl pellets to see what owls eat.
Through hands-on learning, kids can better understand their world.

Come see us this week at the Glouster and The Plains Library!

Glouster Public Library - Oct 6th, 4:30 pm- 5:30 pm
We will be looking at plastics recycling by testing the density of plastics. We will be joined by members of Friends of Athens Rethink Plastics.

The Plains Public Library - Oct 8th, 4:30 pm- 5:30 pm
Come learn about owl pellets. What are owl pellets? Birds don’t have teeth, so owls can swallow their prey, wrap up the bones with fur and feathers from the prey animals, and regurgitate them onto the forest floor. Don’t worry; they have been sterilized! We can see what the owls ate by looking at their pellets.

OPEN TECH STUDIO - EVERY WEDNESDAY 4PM - 6PM

Join the community of tweens and teens interested in tech! Is your child interested in robotics, programming, coding, engineering, or anything Tech?
Every Wednesday, 4 pm-6 pm (and the 1st Saturday of the month), we host Open Tech Studio. We have a blast exploring different tech projects. Your child can mix and match projects and follow where their creativity leads! Volunteer mentors from the university are on hand to help them get started. These mentors can also answer any questions they may have about higher education or exploring STEM careers.

TOMORROW (TUESDAY) - Relax, Connect, Create - Crafternoon is our new monthly crafting time for adults. Held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 2 pm to 4 pm. We will have several tables set up with a different project at each table. We hope this becomes a time and space to relax and socialize while using your creativity. Come alone or bring a friend.
Admission is $5, or get an annual membership that also includes our Speaker Series.
