Okay, I’ve been living with this for weeks now, and I’m trying to put into positive words some semi-negative feelings. So bear with me and if you know me at all, read it through the lens of what you know of my heart.
Please, please, please, please, PLEASE stop putting off patronizing small businesses! Over the past few weeks, I can’t tell you how many times someone walked through the door while we were packing up and said
“I never got to come in and make something!” Or
“I was going to come in this winter...” or
“My friends and I really wanted to come and do this together...”
Well, except for a handful of sick days, there was someone in the studio with the lights on and door open six days a week for the past two years. There were days I sat in that beautiful space with all kinds of gorgeous glass and fun stuff, literally praying for someone to come in. So I’m really sorry if two years wasn’t long enough (that is NOT meant as sarcasm!), but I feel like I did my part. I fulfilled my dream. And I’ve learned a vitally important lesson for my life.
What I’ve learned is this: when a small business opens, I’m going to get in there and support them any way I can as soon as I can. If I like or need what they have to offer, I’ll buy from them. If it’s not my thing, I will talk them up to the people I know in their target audience. I’m going to search local small businesses for gifts instead of Amazon or a chain store. I’m going to support my fellow artist, artisans, small business owners and neighbors every chance I get. And if they end up closing their doors, I’m going to stop by and say “thanks for the memories.”
How about you?

Hello friends!!!
I have one last favor to ask of all of you who enjoyed the studio:
This Saturday, would you be willing to come for an hour or so and help us clean the space up? Everything will be gone by then, and it would be ever so sweet to have friends there one last time - to laugh, maybe to cry (‘cause if you’ve known me for longer than 5 minutes, you know I’m gonna!) and to get the space we all loved ready for its next people (and to save my deposit) lol
I’ll buy the pizza and drinks... whattya say? We’ll be starting about 10, and go til it’s done. But honestly! All I’m asking from each of you is an hour of your time.

John had the honor (?) of finishing the last project. The tree still needs to be grouted, but he and Cyndy did get all the cutting and gluing complete. I love this tree!

The doors closed at Creations for the last time today.
So many memories...
This one, though - this is one of my favorites:
Years ago, my friend Alice, who taught me to mosaic and runs the studio that I patterned Creations after, was going through a sad time, and she played A LOT of John Mayer and Coldplay in the background. Neither has ever been a favorite of mine, but one Saturday, I said something along the lines of “Alice, give us a break. We’re all about ready to stick an ice pick in our ears.” And my wonderful friend replied “This is my studio. When you’re a big girl with a studio of your own, you can play whatever music you want to.” 🤣
Fast forward to two years ago, and the first Friday night Open Studio I had, and “Sweet Caroline” came on. And EVERYONE sang along. It was so joyous! So I recorded it and sent the video to Alice, and said “Hey Alice, I’m a big girl now, and this is what we play in MY studio.” Alice and I had a great laugh about that. Today, the last day of the studio, and “Sweet Caroline” came on. And yep! Everyone sang along. It warmed my heart and made me laugh. So here you go, enjoy a little Neil.
Do you have a favorite memory? Please share it with me! I could use it tonight.
