October 28 | Rema Hort Mann Fund 30th Anniversary Gala + Art Auction
The Rema Hort Mann Fund will mark its 30th anniversary with a Gala + Art Auction at Tribeca Rooftop in New York City. Founded in 1995, RHMF supports emerging artists and provides resources for cancer patients navigating treatment. Held once every five years, the gala supports the Fund’s expanded rapid-response grant portfolio. For this year’s art auction, Carlos Rolón and Hexton Gallery will donate "Te Necesito", 2024.
"Te Necesito" translates directly from Spanish to “I Need You.” The phrase conveys dependence, longing, and emotional need. For those living in the diaspora, this sentiment can extend to the homeland itself, reflecting an enduring connection to a place that remains integral to one’s identity.
Created in collaboration with PRoTechos, a nonprofit building resilient roofs in underserved communities across Puerto Rico, the work incorporates repurposed tarps originally distributed by FEMA and later donated by local churches, community organizations, and nonprofits following Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
Through fabric, embroidery, and mixed media, Rolón incorporates text, flora, and patterns drawn from Caribbean visual and linguistic culture, transforming colloquial expressions into layered reflections on memory, resilience, longing, and belonging.
