There's ONE WEEK LEFT to see Marissa Long: Blister Pearl at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington!

Enshrined in a gauzy pink enclosure with a stalagmite-encrusted figure at its center, MoCA Arlington resident artist Marissa Long’s Blister Pearl is an installation that recalls both a Renaissance garden grotto and a saint’s sepulcher, sites synonymous with mystery and transformation.

Visit before December 17! Admission always free.

It's your LAST CHANCE to see Elliot Doughtie: Tomato at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington !

Elliot Doughtie’s sculptures and installations transform industrial materials into metaphors for the human body and the experience of inhabiting one. By using materials in a way that transcends what the artist describes as their “socially normative expectations of function,” Doughtie’s work acts specifically as a metaphor for the bodies of people who are transgender, including the artist himself.

"Blister Pearl" is artist Marissa Long's most ambitious project to date: a life-sized installation that distills her long standing interests in transformation, time and the uncanny into a singular work.

"Blister Pearl" offers viewers a chance to witness a moment in which death and rebirth co-exist. Various art historical subjects inform the installation, among them Renaissance grottoes, saint's sepulchres and altars, all of which are thought of as sites of mystic transformation.

Join Marissa for an in-person tour and artist talk about "Blister Pearl" on Wednesday, November 29 at 6 pm in the Wyatt Resident Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington.

Constructing Constructions brings together a selection of mixed media work created by artist Judith Stone which, though completed in recent years, reflects Stone’s decades of artistic practice and intellectual inquiry.

Stone’s core interests – in creation and destruction, in the built environment, and in the machinery humans use to manipulate that environment – have been supplemented and shaped by her experiences living and working across the United States and around the world.

Drawing on these observations, Stone’s eye and hand bring together varied, often divergent, subjects, inviting the viewer to reconsider and make connections between familiar environments and forms.

On view now. Admission always free.

What a spectacular night at the Neon Nights Gala!

At the heart of our mission lies a deep commitment to enriching community life by forging connections between the public and contemporary art and artists. We firmly believe that art has the extraordinary power to spark dialogue, ignite creativity, and unify people from all walks of life. By fostering these connections, we aim to make the world of contemporary art more accessible, inclusive, and engaging.

Your support at events like this not only helps us achieve this mission but also plays a vital role in building a vibrant, creative, and connected community. Together, we're making art a part of our everyday lives, enriching our community, and igniting the creative spark within each of us.

A glowing "thank you" to all the speakers, artists, and attendees who made this evening truly special! Thank you to our sponsors Amazon, Catalytic Agency, AVLD Events, Inc, Peter Blair, Elizabeth Georges, Arlington Magazine, Lyon Hall, Northside Social Coffee & Wine, and National Landing BID!

Elliot Doughtie’s sculptures and installations transform industrial materials into metaphors for the human body and the experience of inhabiting one.

In Tomato, Doughtie has created a single installation, a grouping that suggests a Rube Goldberg-type machine, composed of parts drawn from cars, construction sites, and tool boxes. By using materials in a way that transcends what the artist describes as their “socially normative expectations of function,” Doughtie’s work acts specifically as a metaphor for the bodies of people who are transgender, including the artist himself.

Join us for an artist talk on October 21 to hear Doughtie discuss his work.

MoCA Arlington resident artist Marissa Long’s Blister Pearl recalls both a Renaissance garden grotto and a saint’s sepulcher, sites synonymous with mystery and transformation.

A multitude of forms are captured in a moment of metamorphosis; worms become butterflies, appendages transform into crystals, and lilies sprout from organs in a reflection on time and decay’s role in creation.
