“Everyone is welcome to collaborate with me on [a] daily weaving. You can choose yarns for me to use and try weaving yourself.

When each weaving is finished, I’ll cut the cloth off the loom and pin it up on the wall. I’ll label each piece with the names of my collaborators and their choices.”

Join us for a conversation with current Innovation Studio Artist in Residence, Bonner Sale, and MoCA Arlington’s Curator & Resident Artist/Collector Liaison, Amanda Jirón-Murphy.

Innovation Studio Artist in Residence, Bonner Sale, discusses his practice and the work created during the residency Troubled Magic: “Opens Into Another Solarium.”

Troubled Magic is a body of work years in the making, a tribute to the fantasy films and toys Sale enjoyed as a child, and the adventures made with those stories and ideas. Through gouache painting, Sale transports himself back to those worlds and tropes, and reimagines what he’s experienced in life into what he dreamt of as a child.

This capsule collection of painted mini figures, LAZER BRAINS utilizes several film, music and television characters deconstructed, recombined, and painted to create a new identity for the toys. Sale’s toy collection is lifelong and part of the work that’s been shared in this 6-week residency at the Innovation Studio.

Join us Thursday, May 16 between 3pm-7pm at MoCA on the Move with MoCA Arlington at MET Park, South Elm Street between South 13th and South 14th Streets for “Climate Hope” by internationally exhibited artist Monica Jahan Bose. Contribute to a community created art project by writing a poem, pledge, or an illustration thinking about how to mitigate climate change. Write your message directly onto a hand woven 18-foot-long cotton sari from Bangladesh. These poems and pledges will complete the sari which has already been adorned with climate themed wood block prints. On the last day, Saturday May 25th, the public can be a part of an artist talk and a procession with over 70 feet of saris through an Arlington neighborhood and by a waterway.

The community partner for this project is Eco-Action Arlington who will be on site to help you write your poem or pledge. Learn how you can help slow down climate change by simple actions starting at home.
