Music, Local History, and now Film

For those familiar with the work of Alex Prizgintas, you may know him either as a lecturer on regional history or as a musician. But this Sunday, Roost Arts of Hudson Valley will feature one of Alex’s short travelogue videos at their public screening in New Paltz. “My work with videography started with my many music postings which then grew into various videos on regional history topics. I am humbled that my work is being recognized and I look forward with renewed energy to build upon that recognition.” The video production highlights the 1915 Erie Railroad Station in Chester, NY—a site rich in history dating well before the current structure was built. In 1842, one year after the New York & Erie Railroad ran its first train from Piermont to Goshen, railroad contractor and station agent Thaddeus Selleck successfully shipped 240 quarts of milk from the Chester station to New York City. This revolutionary idea sparked Orange County’s legacy of shipping fresh, pure milk to millions and, although the Erie Railroad in Chester has been abandoned for more than four decades, this rich history continues to be preserved by today’s steward of the station: the Chester Historical Society.

The First New Paltz Film Festival "Your Shorts are Screening" at Roost Arts Hudson Valley will kick off on Sunday, February 16th and starts at 7:00 PM. For those interested in attending the public screening the event, it will take place at 69 Main St, New Paltz, NY 12561-1523. The screening will run for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, and free popcorn as well as drinks will be provided for all attendees. Roost Arts of Hudson Valley requests a suggest a $10 donation at the door, though any amount is greatly appreciated.
