A 140+ Year-Old Symbol of Healing and Hope.

This intricate brass object is a Milagros Heart Votive (circa 1880). In Spanish colonial tradition, milagros (meaning “miracles”) were small devotional offerings presented to saints or missions in gratitude for blessings or as prayers for healing and protection.

What makes this artifact especially significant is its provenance. It was crafted by a Mission Native American and used in traditional healing practices, reflecting the blending of Indigenous traditions with Spanish colonial religious customs.

In late 19th-century California, communities faced illness, loss, and the demands of daily life. During these difficult times, objects like this Milagros Heart Votive offered comfort, strength, and hope, serving as meaningful expressions of faith and resilience.

Stop by the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage to see this remarkable artifact in person and discover more hidden stories from our collection.

Every town has that one street, building, or landmark that instantly feels like home.

Students from four 3rd-grade classes at Baldwin Stocker Elementary recently transformed those familiar landmarks, streets, and memories into their own miniature version of the city.

Welcome to Tiny Arcadia.

Now on display at the Gilb Museum.
