Achey Says- share with the wildlife

The forest provides many wonderful foods—not just for people, but for wildlife, too. For generations, we have gathered many gifts from the land, including acorns, berries, seeds, roots, meats, and other seasonal foods. These were gathered with care, gratitude, and respect. But remember, we are never gathering alone. Deer browse on tender plants. Birds enjoy berries and seeds. Squirrels, bears, and many other animals depend on acorns and nuts. Every living thing has a place at nature’s table. When gathering foods, plant materials or hunting, take only what you need and leave plenty behind. That way, the plants can continue to grow, the animals have food to eat, and future generations can enjoy these gifts as well. Caring for the land means caring for everyone who calls it home. When we share with wildlife, we help keep the forests, meadows, rivers, and oak woodlands healthy and full of life. As you explore today, look around and imagine how many plants and animals depend on one another. Nature teaches us that everything is connected. Thank you for helping care for the land, friends. When we share nature’s gifts with one another, everyone can thrive.

Achey Says - Culture is Health
Our traditions nourish more than our bodies—they nourish our hearts, our minds, and our spirits.
When we gather or hunt our traditional foods, weave, sing our songs, share our language, and care for the land, we strengthen the bonds that connect us to one another and to our ancestors.
Health is more than feeling well. It is knowing who you are, where you come from, and feeling that you belong. Every story remembered, every tradition practiced, and every lesson shared helps keep our culture alive. And when culture thrives, communities grow stronger. Whether you are learning something new, or sharing what you already know, you are helping these traditions continue for future generations.
So remember, friends… culture is health. Care for your culture, care for your community, and care for the land—and they will care for you in return.

Our new segment is here- Achey says!
Achey being an elder has valuable information for us all. Below is our first Achey says.
Achey says- don't dig.
The ground beneath our feet holds ancestors, roots, homes, seeds, and stories. When we dig, we disturb the history, plants, and animals that belong here.
Instead, walk gently. Look carefully. Let your eyes do the exploring.
There is so much to discover without turning over the earth. A fallen leaf, an acorn, a feather, or a footprint can teach us something new.
Respecting the land means leaving it healthy for the plants, animals, and people who will come after us.
Take only memories. Leave only footprints.
Thank you, friends. We appreciate your kindness.
