Andrews Art Museum

The Andrews Art Museum is housed on the mezzanine floor of the Cultural Arts Center in Andrews and is run by the Valleytown Cultural Arts and Historical Society. The museum hosts regularly scheduled exhibitions of local and regional artists in the museum's gallery spaces. The building that is home to the Andrews Art Museum was constructed in 1923, and was originally the First Baptist Church of Andrews. Through the efforts of dedicated citizens, the building is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mission: To showcase fine art created by local and regional artists. To give artists and musicians the opportunity to gain exposure by participating in exhibits and shows throughout the year. To establish Andrews, NC as a notable destination for the arts.

Wally Avett will be one of the featured authors at the 7th annual 50/50 Art Show on Friday April 13 from 5-7pm.
Wally Avett is a retired journalist living in the Great Smoky Mountains of extreme southwestern North Carolina.
"My father was a country preacher," he says. "So I grew up with good storytellers all around me, friends and family.
"For me, good writing has to be based on truth. I write like my Granny used to make quilts, producing fiction which is actually fashioned from bits and pieces of raw truth, modified and shaped as needed."
He is an avid reader and gardener, a Sunday School teacher and bluegrass gospel singer, hunter, fisherman and reluctant handyman. He likes history, sometimes sells mountain cabins to retirees fleeing the heat of Florida and often tells funny stories.

The Andrews Art Museum is pleased to announce that Paul Constantine will be performing at the 7th annual 50 50 Art Show on April 13, 2018 from 5-7pm.

Doctor Paul, as he’s known to his fans, is a troubadour in every sense of the word. After appearing on NBC's The Voice in Season 9, the Doctor has been traveling on his "I Ain''t Done Yet" tour, bringing his music to as many new fans and friends as possible. From the Gulf coast of Florida, to Music City and all points in between, fans of his acoustic solo performances have fallen in love with his utterly original interpretations of the work of songwriters great and small. In his deft hands familiar songs are rendered fresh, as though being heard for the first time, and lesser-known songs are thoroughly owned and yet oddly familiar. The Doctor has collaborated with some of the great names in the business, and has recorded with some of Nashville’s top session players, but it is in his live shows that you’ll experience him as nature intended: Unadorned, accompanied by only his acoustic guitar, his unique, powerful voice carried by a flurry of finger-picked notes that pass like mile markers on a very heady trip. So here is an invitation to join him as he takes you somewhere new yet familiar, and anyone who has experienced one of his intimate performances knows one thing for certain: You will both treasure the company.

ATTENTION ARTS ADVOCATES--ACTION REQUESTED

Arts North Carolina has sent a call to action for those wishing to support funding for Arts in North Carolina, specifically the Grassroots Arts Program. The budget recommendation by the House showed a decrease in the requested funding for the program while awarding the North Carolina Museum of Art its full budget ask of $9 million. The North Carolina Museum of Art serves 521,000 visitors annually, while the Grassroots Arts Program annually serves 5,845,249 men, women, and children in all 100 counties in NC. The Grassroots Arts Program is a huge part of what we do here at the AAAC, and works to bridge the divide between rural and urban funding for cultural resources.

Arts NC encourages advocates to contact the legislators below NO LATER THAN FRIDAY JUNE 9TH at 4PM:
President Phil Berger 919-733-5708 [email protected]
Senator Harry Brown 919-715-3034 [email protected]
Speaker Tim Moore 919-733-3451 [email protected]
Representative Nelson Dollar 919-715-0795 [email protected]
Representative Linda Johnson 919-733-5861 [email protected]
Representative Chuck McGrady 919-733-5956 [email protected]

Arts NC has offered the following template for your message to the legislators: "In order to minimize further divisions between urban and rural cultural resources, we respectfully ask that you consider increasing Grassroots Arts funding for the North Carolina Arts Council, and in so doing, more fairly distribute tax dollars to all 100 counties in North Carolina"
