We had a wonderful museum visit at the Music of Anacortes exhibit from Allene Halliday (AHS 1952), in town promoting books about her career in the Halliday Sisters. Her books are available at Watermark Book Co. and she will has an event at Village Books today in Bellingham, 75 years after she and sister Pat performed Samba numbers there at the Grand Theatre.

Before Bill Mitchell launched the Anacortes Mural Project he worked as a self-appointed historian, producing cartoons, calendars and columns featured in the 1980s Anacortes American. His calendar series resurrected historic photographs, included eloquent captions and his beautiful calligraphy and illustrations. He conducted interviews and museum research to provide background for these well-told stories of Fidalgo Island and surrounding waters.
We have compiled links to Bill’s history columns below – enjoy! Find it on the Anacortes Museum website's Bill Mitchell webpages and - thanks to Washington Digital Newspapers and Skagit Publishing - included in the archive of Anacortes American newspapers online.
