Preston exist to preserve and interpret the history of Fidalgo and Guemes Islands and to nurture in the community an awareness and appreciation of its heritage. The Museum Foundation is a non-profit volunteer organization of dedicated community members who work to promote the Museum’s preservation and development through memberships, donations, fundraising, and in-kind contributions.

Before Bill Mitchell launched the Anacortes Mural Project he worked as a self-appointed historian, producing cartoons, calendars and columns featured in the 1980s Anacortes American. His calendar series resurrected historic photographs, included eloquent captions and his beautiful calligraphy and illustrations. He conducted interviews and museum research to provide background for these well-told stories of Fidalgo Island and surrounding waters.
