Woven from the landscape itself. 🌵 This beautiful vintage coiled basket was crafted by a weaver from the Tohono O’odham Nation (formerly known as Papago).

The Tohono O'odham—which translates to the "Desert People"—have a rich, centuries-old tradition of basketry, utilizing the hearty plants of the Sonoran Desert. This deep bowl features a classic coiled construction, likely utilizing a foundation of bear grass stitched tightly with bleached yucca and striking, dark brown Devil’s Claw to create its bold, stepped geometric pattern. A stunning piece of functional art and Southwest history! 🧺

A beautiful circle of tradition. This contemporary Storyteller Jar by Clifford Kim Fragua (Jemez Pueblo) is a wonderful fusion of two distinct Pueblo art forms.

While storyteller figures are usually standalone sculptures, Fragua has intricately attached three beautifully sculpted women to the rim of this vessel. They hold hands in a continuous circle of community, overlooking the stunning black-and-white geometric and foliate designs painted on the jar's body.
