This season I have been working on lidded vessels. These vessels are designed with different kinds of filigrana (glass with white and colored cane). This process starts with the production of canes which are laid out, heated up and rolled up onto a bubble of glass. They usually get a layer of clear over the top and are blown to a predetermined shape. On some of these vessels a colored "lip wrap" is applied. The photos seen here touch some of the highlights of a complex process to produce the finished piece. The lip wrap is the final step just before opening up the lip.
The lid is made entirely separate from the vase with colors that coordinate. I really enjoy making the lids, because they are fun and addicting. Although the lid is a small part of the vase, it is very much a focal point.
