Well, we had a gorgeous day and a big turnout for our 13th Annual Wine & Music at the Wright House today.

The committee wants to thank everyone, businesses and individuals that contributed to the success of today's event.

Midland States Bank, The Home Center, Peoples Bank & Trust, The Equity, and A&H Implement all provided material assistance through the use of shelters/tents, ice, tables, the trailer for the band, and storage.

Everyone who volunteered to serve wine and beer or work in the cashier tent; Dan Arend, Bryan Letford, Roger Ohnesorge, Denny Braasch, Linda Homann, Amy Ruckman, Bonnie Lester, Mary Stice, Jon & Connie Schultz, Bob & Vicki Bray, Tom Brady, Monte & Emilie Wall, Jennifer Wendling, Lisa Hill, Chris & Doug Winters, Jane Tappendorf, Sandra & Gene Steumke, Jim & Lynn Holland, Dave & Kate Ruff, Keith & Angie Braasch, Paul Kuhns, Larry & Mrs. Finfrock, J.J. & Jill Wright, and Jason & Amy Rippetoe.

The people who helped set up Friday evening and Saturday morning, in addition to some of those mentioned above; Spencer Pryor, Gary Braasch, Mel Gieselman, Rich Frailey, Deb Braasch, Randy & Lori Tappendorf, and Mike Hoffmeister. (If we have forgotten someone, we apologize. We are fortunate that there are so many volunteers, we have trouble keeping track of them all.)

There also were numerous volunteers who acted as tour guides in the house while it was open today as well.

We heard nothing but positive comments about our musical performers, Dakota Danielle and Bradley Bennett, and Jeremy Adam and the Surviving Members.

And of course, our most fervent gratitude to the hundreds of people who attended and spent their money today in order to help us maintain the Wright House and its property. The home is unique in its structure and contents, and it is encouraging so many people support us throughout the year, but particularly this day each year. We hope you had an enjoyable day. If you have comments or suggestions about the event, please message us through this page.

Mike Barns, of Altamont, won the 50/50 drawing.

Please keep your calendars open for next year's event, Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Thank You,
The Wine & Music Committee:
Sue Braasch, Jerry Hoffmeister, and Scott Beal

This tree blew over at the Wright House during the storm yesterday and came into contact with the barn.
We don't know the full extent of the damage to the barn yet, if any, but hopefully it isn't too serious.

Several people stopped and helped us clean up branches at the Wright House after the storm and we appreciate their help.

Thanks.

We had a great turnout last night for our trivia contest. Thirteen teams and a lot of fun.

Taking first place - The Quizzly Bears.

In second place - The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly.

The top two had to come down to the two breaker round, with the Quizzly Bears taking the win by one point. By a grand total score, including the tie-breaker round, of 109-108 (out of 130 possible, counting the tie-breaker.)

In 3rd place, with 96/120, was The Bryzzo Souvenir Company. We appreciate them donating their 3rd place prize back to the Wright House.

Our thanks to all who made this event happen.
Beginning with the people who played, without whom we would have no event.

The following businesses donated to the Wright House for this event: Blomberg, Inc., of Farina; ProMark Advertising of Altamont; W.E.T.Pools and Spas of Effingham; Meals on Wheels of Altamont; Ramz Properties of Altamont; and Wildbur's Outdoor Power Equipment.

These donations were coordinated by the representatives of Cromwell Radio Group's stations in Effingham (WCRC/WCRA/98.9 The Game/Jack FM), which helped promote our event, and the fish fry of the Altamont Garden Club, which was held before our contest. These stations have made a concerted effort to promote Altamont in recent months and the Wright House appreciates their assistance.

Thanks to Janet Ramsey, of the Carriage House Event Center, for the use of the room.

To Joe's Pizza of Altamont for delivering pizzas and donating gift cards as prizes.

If you get a chance, tell any of these business and individuals you appreciate their support of Altamont in general, and the Dr. Charles M. Wright House in particular.

Thanks to our judges; Shirley Harder, Carol Kassel, and Linda Schmidt.

To Tom Bernahl and Brian Gilbert, for helping coordinate the entries, prizes, and scoring.

And particular thanks to Jon Oliver, whose computer skills and countless hours of preparation put together the slideshows for each category, as well as for keeping track of tabulating the total scores. Without Jon's dedication, the contest would likely not take place.

Also, the Altamont Garden Club thanks those who supported their meal before the trivia contest.

We hope to do both events again next year and appreciate the support of everyone who attended each event.

03/03/2018

If you're going to have a team in our trivia contest, which is FRIDAY, MARCH 9, please let us know.
It will help us prepare for the event.
And, remember, you can save $10 on your entry fee if you pay BEFORE the event.
It's $90 in advance, $100 that night.

Questions, or to reserve a table, send us a message.

Thanks for your interest in the Dr. Charles M. Wright House.

The ACHS FFA demonstration plot is located just west of the Dr. Charles M. Wright House.
This land was donated to the FFA by Charles Wright III, a 1930 graduate of ACHS.
We're proud that Mr. Wright's donation is appreciated and benefits Altamont's FFA chapter.

Thanks to two students, Jacob Will and Noah Kopplin, the FFA's plot has been harvested for the season! A special thank you to the Will family for donating their time and equipment to make it happen! As well as the rest of the community who has donated to the plot this year!

09/17/2017

Our thanks go out to everyone who attended our 12th Annual Wine & Music event today.

And also to our volunteers who showed up and helped work in the tents selling beer & wine; the people who showed up Friday night to set up tents and haul picnic tables, chairs, tables; our sponsors such as the City of Altamont and Altamont Lions Club; the folks who volunteered inside the house to serve as guides during tours; Joe's Pizza of Altamont; Nik Alwerdt of Alwerdt's Gardens; our bands TMC Acoustic and Frisco Highline; and many more we've probably overlooked. Please know we appreciate you all. This event does not spontaneously generate. There are dozens of people who play crucial roles to produce this event each year.

We could not do this without the support of the people who set it up, and the people who attended and spend their money all day to help care for the Wright House.

Andy Butt, of Gays, Illinois, won the Springfield Armory 9mm pistol.

Doris Allison, of Altamont, won the 50/50 drawing.

Each year our event grows a little more and we thank you all for making that possible.

Hopefully we'll see you at our event next year.
