Castlerock Museum is closed due to concerns about the coronavirus. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are hoping to be back open on Friday, May 29th. In the meantime, stay safe everyone!

03/23/2020

Castlerock Museum has decided to remain closed through April due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus. The museum has also cancelled its annual Fire in the Shire event. This was a difficult decision to make because it was our most popular event and a number of the local businesses took part, but we felt it was the right thing to do given the circumstances.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. Fire in the Shire will be back again next year and hopefully better than ever!

03/17/2020

Castlerock Museum will be closed for the rest of March due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but felt it was necessary to ensure the safety of our visitors as well as our volunteers and staff.

Unfortunately, the museum has had to cancel it's annual Meet the Vikings event on March 21st due to the most recent state coronavirus guidelines that recommend cancelling events with over 250 people. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

For those of you that haven't heard already, Castlerock Museum has started construction on an expansion. It will include an elevator for handicap access, additional gift shop, office, and storage space, and a new exhibit gallery that will cover the early American period.

We are hoping to have the expansion completed by May, although the exhibit work on the new gallery will probably take another year or so to complete.

If you would like to contribute to the expansion fund, send a check to Castlerock Museum, P.O. Box 335, Alma, WI 54610 or go to www.castlerockmuseum.com. As an added benefit, if you donate fifty dollars or more this holiday season, we will extend your membership for one year.

Here are some photographs from our annual From Forest to Furniture event. We had five woodworkers demonstrating how medieval furniture was made using hand tools. This year’s projects include an oak chest, a 17th century sloped lid desk box, an early oak carved panel, and some early style staked saw benches.

A special thanks to Paul Nyborg, Derek Olson, Thomas Latane, Will Reser, and Michael Fasold for sharing their time and their knowledge!
