Alfred Shaker Museum The Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum (FASM) is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the Shaker community in Alfred, Maine.

Founded in 1995, the Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum (FASM) is a grassroots group of volunteers focused on raising funds and providing labor to restore the interior and exterior of the Museum building. The Museum displays Shaker items and is available as an educational facility and community center. When the library is finished, it will house a collection of print and media resources on the Shakers that will be available to scholars and researchers. The Museum holds various functions to encourage the public to share in the growing development of the building.

Spooky Halloween Tree Felting Workshop Date: Saturday, October 19, 2019 class starting at 10:00 AM - 3:00PM. Kit will include materials to embellish the tree with the spider and owl. The instructor will bring extra materials so that individuals may craft other embellishmentss such as bats, headstones or crows. Cost: $25.00 (includes complete kit). Bring a lunch if you wish. 2019 Sid Emery Forum Speakers Announced

With the summer season straight ahead, the Friends of Alfred Shaker Museum is lining up four speakers for this season’s Sid Emery Memorial Forum. The speakers will discuss Shaker music, meeting a man’s best friend in war, the life of Helen Keller through impersonation, and life as chaplain of the Maine Warden’s Service. 2019 Student Essay Contest Underway

Alfred Shaker Museum’s 2019 student essay contest for seventh and eighth graders is now underway. The contest is in its ninth year. The rules, changed slightly this year, have been posted on the museum’s website. Students have until March 1 to submit their entries. Prizes will go to the top two papers submitted and winners will receive $100 and $75 awards, if warranted by the judges’ decision. [ 64 more words ]

Sanford Celebrates a New Track, Mayor Says

Now in its 250th anniversary year, Sanford has found a new track to a better future after intensive analysis of its problems and quality of life. The horizon shows it is soon to reap some large rewards when a new high school opens in October and a new broadband network is completed this fall as well.
