Alfred Shaker Museum The Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum (FASM) is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the Shaker community in Alfred, Maine.

Founded in 1995, the Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum (FASM) is a grassroots group of volunteers focused on raising funds and providing labor to restore the interior and exterior of the Museum building. The Museum displays Shaker items and is available as an educational facility and community center. When the library is finished, it will house a collection of print and media resources on the Shakers that will be available to scholars and researchers. The Museum holds various functions to encourage the public to share in the growing development of the building.

AppleFest is Coming!

The annual Apple Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22. The Museum will be open from 10 AM till 4 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. As always, we will feature crafters, pony rides, narrated wagon rides, homemade apple pies, a HUGE yard sale, free parking & yummy food to eat, museum tours, and a raffle for a basket of Shaker-related items.

Kate Braestrup, writer and chaplain to the Maine Warden Service, will tell us takes from her work as chaplain on Sunday, October 13, at 1:30 PM at the Alfred Shaker Museum. She will talk about searching for and rescuing people lost in the wilds or waiting with family praying for missing loved ones. Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.

We can today announce that the Museum has successfully saved the Jane Austen letter for public access, thanks to an outpouring of generosity from over 250 people around the world and the support of funding bodies. 2019 Sid Emery Forum Speakers Announced

With the summer season straight ahead, the Friends of Alfred Shaker Museum is lining up four speakers for this season’s Sid Emery Memorial Forum. The speakers will discuss Shaker music, meeting a man’s best friend in war, the life of Helen Keller through impersonation, and life as chaplain of the Maine Warden’s Service. 2019 Student Essay Contest Underway

Alfred Shaker Museum’s 2019 student essay contest for seventh and eighth graders is now underway. The contest is in its ninth year. The rules, changed slightly this year, have been posted on the museum’s website. Students have until March 1 to submit their entries. Prizes will go to the top two papers submitted and winners will receive $100 and $75 awards, if warranted by the judges’ decision. [ 64 more words ]
