Thank you to everyone who came out last night to History 250: A Revolutionary Night of Trivia. We had a great night facts and fundraising!

Six teams put their knowledge to the test on questions from American history, pop culture, art, and more, such as: "What is the only US State flag to incorporate the flag of a foreign country?" (Hawaii); "How many Amendments to the Constitution have been repealed?" (One); and "What was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas?" (Jamestown, 1607).

Ultimately, team Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Answers came out on top by 1 point in a close game. Douglas County Historical Society MN and LOLM have plenty more coming up this summer, and we're looking forward to seeing you at our future Summer of History 250 events (maybe even including another trivia night this fall!)

Happy Flag Day!

Here's a repost from a few years ago about the Ensign Flag, one of the few officially approved variations of the Stars and Stripes.

Happy Flag Day! Today celebrates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States of America.

Have you ever seen this flag on the stern of a boat? There are many approved variations of the Stars and Stripes and this is one of them: The Yacht Ensign.

Ensign flags are used to identify nationality. The yacht ensign was adopted by Congress in 1848 and allowed civilian vessels of more than 20 tons to move from domestic port to domestic port without clearing customs. Originally, flying one of these flags meant you had a license to do so, but unlicensed yachts also flew the flag regularly. In 1980, the license requirement was removed and today, many pleasure boats fly the yacht ensign in domestic waters.
