As the new year approaches, many are looking for their “New year new me” resolutions. In 2023 what kind of turquoise resolutions could we have? As we know turquoise is a stone that we are always learning about. How can we grow in our knowledge in 2023? Here are a few suggestions from our friends at the Turquoise Museum.
1. Read a book about turquoise from cover to cover
Books about turquoise have been published in multiple languages dating back to the 20th century. Maybe it’s time to pick one up and enjoy all it has to offer.
2. Buy that stone I've been eyeing for too long
We have all had that piece that we just can’t get out of our head, maybe it is time to add that piece to your collection.
3. Visit the Turquoise Museum
Turquoise fascination can’t be complete without a visit to the Turquoise Museum. Walking through the halls and seeing the collection of stones, artifact, art, and information is a moment that cannot be passed up.
4. Pick a favorite turquoise mine
No matter if you like the green from King’s Manassa, the blue from Tyrone, or the mix from Pilot Mountain; picking a favorite turquoise mine is like a right of passage for a turquoise enthusiast.
5. Meet a miner
Miners are some of the coolest people you could meet…. When they aren’t in the hot sun mining turquoise. Their stories, and colorful personalities just can’t be topped.
6. Attend Turquoise United
The annual Turquoise United is coming up in August of 2023. According to the Gem Institute of America “Turquoise United provides a platform for everyone involved in the trade to gather as a community and discuss important topics.” What better plans for 2023 could be made than to attend Turquoise United in August?
7. Wear my turquoise more often
While many people buy and collect turquoise jewelry, a lot regrettably don’t wear their pieces very often, make 2023 the year of turquoise through your fashion choices.
8. Meet a lapidary
Stonecutters have a fascinating perspective, they can take a rock and see a finished gem ready to be set. But who are these people that can cut away at this stone to make such beautiful gems? Maybe this is the year I finally meet a lapidary.
9. Have a piece of my turquoise chemically tested
While owning turquoise, many people have been told about the stone itself, but few have ever had their stone tested. Testing your stone is a whole new world of turquoise, the readout from the test is both fascinating and intriguing. To know the specific chemicals that make up YOUR piece of turquoise. After testing, you will have an all new appreciation for the stone you have in your collection.
10. Have a piece of my turquoise professionally graded
Turquoise, like most gemstones, has different grades based on rarity. In 2023 what could be more interesting than to have your stone professionally graded? To know specifically how rare your stone actually is, will increase not only your knowledge of your piece, but also your appreciation for it.
11. Visit a turquoise mine
Turquoise mines are all over the world, some are large and some are small. Some mine owners will take friends of theirs on a tour of the mine. 2023 would be a great year to try to visit a turquoise mine with the miner that owns it.
12. Inspire a friend to fall in love with turquoise
“Why do I love turquoise? Pull up a chair, you’re going to be here awhile!” One of the most fascinating parts of the turquoise industry are the people that love turquoise. The industry is always bettered by having more people fall in love with turquoise. So wear your turquoise, tell everyone about what you’re wearing: talk to the teller at the bank, the cashier at the grocery store, the neighbor down the street, and the police officer that just pulled you over. Find a new turquoise lover out there, anywhere you can.
13. Get my turquoise book signed
There are still a few authors of turquoise books that are still living, 2023 is the perfect year to meet one, learn about their passions, learn about their book, and have them sign your copy.
As 2023 draws near we hope that you and your loved ones are safe, happy, and healthy and that next year will bring all you have ever dreamed. Please tell us, what is your 2023 turquoise resolution?
