Museum Exhibit (Eagle Project) FAQs
1. Why did you choose this for your project?
After completing my service hours for my Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge at the Albertville Museum, I realized that there was little representation for scouting in the museum. I began brainstorming then on how I could improve this for the museum. My community service hours to the museum created a connection there and allowed for me to open a discussion with museum staff concerning my ideas.
2. What would you like to see happen as a result of this project?
My hope for this project is to not only provide my community with a snapshot of scouting history in Albertville, but to also represent that scouting is alive and well, still providing youth with a place to learn important skills and make life long friends.
3. What will the exhibit highlight about scouting?
This is the 90th year for troop 4071. That is a lot of history to display in a small space. I want to make sure that we highlight as many significant events from all troops in Albertville as I can for every decade, so that scouts of any age can look at the exhibit and feel like their time in Scouting is properly represented.
4. How can people in the community help?
The simplest thing that everyone can do is to get the word out. There may be people in Albertville with no personal connection to Scouting, but who know those who have been involved. By sharing this information by word of mouth or through social media, we can get a broader reach. We also realize that many who have a connection to Scouting in Albertville, no longer live here and I have no way of reaching out to all of them without the help of the community.
5. What kind of items are you looking to be donated?
The focus is Scouting in Albertville. We know from experience that many people hold on to scouting memorabilia that was their own or maybe a loved one’s, but often these items wind up in a box somewhere. We are looking for patches, uniforms items, pictures, newspaper clippings, books or anything that was significant to a scout in Albertville. Cub Scout, Boy scout, Explorer, Venture Scout and Order of the Arrow memorabilia is appreciated. Some may have valuable information as well. Donating a few minutes of your time to tell your story or to clarify a piece of history is also appreciated. In addition, the exhibit will require funding. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
6. I was a part of scouting, but not in Albertville, is there something I can do to help?
Scouting is a community within itself. Scouts from many communities come together for district and council events. You may not have participated in scouting in Albertville, but did participate in events with scouts from Albertville. These events have their own stories and memorabilia that are relevant to this exhibit. As always, getting the word out is an important piece of the puzzle.
7. What if someone donates an item that does not get used in the exhibit?
When someone donates an item for display, they will have to fill out a form which will indicate the final disposition of the item. They will have the option to have the item returned if not used.
8. How do I donate to this project?
We ask all donors fill out a donation record. You can drop items off at the Albertville Museum. You can contact me through my troop’s email [email protected] and I will arrange to pick up your items. Monetary donations can be sent to Venmo ( Memo: Exhibit) or checks made payable to Troop 4071.
9. I have Girl Scout memorabilia, is this of interest to you?
The focus of this exhibit is the history of Boy Scouts of America, BSA, and Scouting America in Albertville. While I understand that the Girl Scouts also have a rich heritage in our community, it will not be the focus of this exhibit.
10. I have no items to donate, but I have information about Scouting in Albertville that I can share, would this help?
Absolutely! A big part of this project is documenting as much of the historical timelines of the troops here in town. Any information you have is helpful. Please reach out to me by phone, text or email. I look forward to talking with you.
