One of my favorite things about this carousel is its community within a community… the group of people who decide they want to give back to their community and don’t realize that they are joining another community- one that is full of all kinds of different people with this in common… they believe in Wendy’s dream. There is so much love among this group of volunteers- for each other, for this carousel, and for their community.

Join us tomorrow morning for our Sensory Friendly Ride! There will be a special time for December- Sensory Friendly will start at 12:00 PM and end at 2:30 PM. In January, it will go back to the usual time of 11 AM-1:30 PM. Thank you in advance for your understanding- and we can't wait to see you all for a quieter, slower ride tomorrow. The carousel is for EVERYONE!

The Downtown Twice Around Christmas Parade & Community Tree Lighting Ceremony is tomorrow, December 3, starting at 5pm. The parade begins at the corner of Broadalbin Street and First Avenue with the tree lighting right after at Two Rivers Market.

Volunteers Needed!

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of the Carousel! There are several opportunities for ages 14 and up to help at the beautiful Albany Historic Carousel.

Fill out an application online or stop in anytime Wednesday – Sunday from 11:00AM–4:00PM to pick up an application and learn more about volunteering with us. This is a great family activity to do with teens throughout the year especially now during the holidays.

We have several fun events coming up on weekends and evenings including
Breakfast with Santa, December First Friday, and after-hours holiday events and we need volunteers. As a volunteer, you will enjoy 20% off in the Gift Shop & Café, plus a Carousel ride and drink from our Café for each shift completed. Come and join our amazing group of Volunteers!

I am so thankful for this lovely group of people who joined me today to celebrate the 3rd Annual Carousel Come Together Volunteer Community Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner! (The name is a work in progress- suggestions are welcome!)

For the past three years, I have been lucky enough to have the most gorgeous place in Albany to host a potluck style dinner for those in our Carousel volunteer community who don’t have other plans for the day and who might have otherwise spent the holiday alone. It’s two favorites wrapped up in one day for me- one of my favorite days of the year, and one of my favorite ways to show the volunteers how much they mean to us.

Congratulations to our 4 most recent graduates from Carving the Future, a 6 week carving workshop for high school students! These guys spent every Wednesday afternoon for the last 6 weeks working with our master carvers in our carving studio, learning the art of carousel wood carving, and now have finished the program with their very own set of carving tools, a new skill, and some great memories!
