With our warmest wishes for a joyous 2020! We hope the coming year is filled with the richness of culture and the excitement of history. We are grateful for your support which made 2019 a momentous year: we completed extensive preservation work, and hosted multiple cultural events and educational programs to make our museum more vibrant than ever. If you have not already, there is still time to make your end-of-year gift. With our gratitude and appreciation, the Board, Staff and Volunteers of the ACHA | Ten Broeck Mansion.

Thank you to all who volunteered, donated, and attended our free Children's Story Hour & Art (and cookie!) Program today. Did you know that "cookies" came to America from the Dutch in the 1620s? We also made holiday pop-up cards, which were first popular in the 1800s. For the grand finale, we had stories read to us by Sinterklaas - the Dutch St. Nicholas. Thank you for your support which helps make free educational programs like this possible.

Wintertime is time for gatherings at the Ten Broeck Mansion! We've had a busy past few days: a free senior enrichment program studying the document boxes of the 1700s-1800s and creating our own treasure boxes with personal memories. Funding courtesy of the Bender Foundation in partnership with LifePath (Senior Services of Albany). Then a holiday party for our wonderful neighbors in the Ten Broeck Triangle Preservation League. Our dedicated volunteers have been preparing for our 2020 exhibit. And then we hosted a tour for the Colonie Senior Service Centers. Your support makes our free and affordable cultural enrichment programs possible. Thank you for helping us make history matter, for all of us.

Exploring the history of the Ten Broeck Mansion, and sharing images from a recent museum accession of Abraham Ten Broeck's Prayer Book with a wonderful group at the senior center in Arbor Hill. We explored how Dutch families shaped their identity over generations and how we preserve our own histories. We created memory journals to hold our personal histories - memories of grandparents back into the 1860s were shared! With our thanks to LifePath (Senior Services of Albany) and the Bender Family Foundation for helping make this possible. Your support as members and donors will help us expand quality programs like this to more in our community.

It is heart-warming on a cold day to see all of the time put in by dedicated volunteers at the ACHA | Ten Broeck Mansion! These past few days we have patched and painted, worked on our new archaeology exhibit, set up for programs, and started an archives processing project. Plus, decorating has begun for our 2019 Holiday House - a month long of celebrations, special tours, and concerts for you and your loved ones. Contact us to learn more about becoming a Ten Broeck Mansion volunteer. Docents (we will train), office help, and organizers are welcome.

Thank you for all who attended the presentation this evening by Walter Wheeler, Architectural Historian from Hartgen Archaeological Associations, on the history of the Ten Broeck Mansion. Wally shared some of his latest research, highlighting the pastoral roots of our site, aspects of the 1798 structure, and key changes in the 1830s and 1880s. We are seeking docents (volunteer tour guides) for 2020 - please contact us if you'd like to share your passion for history with others!
