We many not have airshows right now but there is something to look forward to on May 22nd!

On Friday, May 22, there will be a warbird flyover in honor of first responders starting from #Addison, flying up over #Plano to @bswhealth Plano and across #Dallas, ending at Dallas Love Field.

“We wanted to show how much we appreciate all of our first responders, front-line medical workers and essential employees during this time of COVID-19 crisis,” said Addison Director of Communications Mary Rosenbleeth . “We thought that since the Blue Angels missed city of Addison, a flyover of the wonderful, historic planes from Cavanaugh Flight Museum would be a great tribute to the hard work of our citizens.” The Friday, May 22 flyover will originate at Addison Airport at 11 a.m., and will end at Addison Airport at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The flyover will consist of a collection of the historic warplanes from Cavanaugh’s extensive collection, including a B-25, P-40 and T-6 formation, as well as a rarely seen privately owned Beechcraft Starship (one of four in the world) and the T-37 Tweet owned by the Service Air Corps. Participating planes are subject to change.

After passing a cadre of Addison first responders gathered on the ramp at Cavanaugh Flight Museum, the planes will take off from Addison Airport at 11 a.m. and gather in air space north of the town. The formation will circle seven area hospitals and fly down Belt Line Road as well as Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The planes will fly over Addison once more as they prepare for landing at the Addison airport at approximately 12:30 p.m. The planned route and timeline is below.

Addison Airport partnered with locally-based Million Air Dallas to provide fuel for the flyover.

Carrollton Regional Medical Center: 11:30 AM
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Plano TX: 11:34 AM
Belt Line Road: 11:37 AM
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Plano: 11:40 AM
Medical City Dallas: 11:45 AM
Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas: 11:48 AM
Baylor University Medical Center: 11:52 AM
VA North Texas Health Care System (VA Hospital Lancaster/Dallas: 11:57 AM
DFW National Cemetery: 12:03 PM
Dallas Love Field: 12:10 PM

Valued Museum Patrons,
The Cavanaugh Flight Museum is closely monitoring the COVID-19 virus issue. Last night Dallas County announced guidelines to close certain bars, lounges, arcades, private clubs and limiting restaurants to take out or delivery. Lastly it reduced the threshold for community gatherings from 500 to 50.
Our first priority is always the health, safety, and well-being of our patrons, partners, staff and volunteers. CFM is taking extra care to clean and disinfect all surfaces within the museum. We are opening the Hangar doors to allow plenty of fresh air to circulate. The museum has close to 50,000 sq feet of open indoor exhibit space, as well as outdoor exhibits, so we are able to offer our patrons the opportunity for safe social distancing as well as access to fresh air.
You can view the Addison amended order here:

We will continue to monitor and work with Town of Addison Officials, to insure a clean and safe environment for our visitors, volunteers and staff.

Thank You for your continued support.

Blue Skies,

Doug Jeanes
Executive Director

“But when the U.S. Army Air Force procured the B-25G Mitchell, it had a very different mission in mind—sinking ships at sea. Japan’s sprawling Pacific empire could only be sustained through frequent supply convoys. When the United States set about dismantling Tokyo’s network of island bases, it decided it would only seize key islands, and allow the rest to ‘rot on the vine’ by cutting off their resupply convoys.

While U.S. submarines inflicted the greater share of Japanese shipping losses, airpower could be more rapidly concentrated to hammer large Japanese convoys.

Relatively agile light and medium bombers like the A-20 Havc and B-25 Mitchell played a key role in this often-forgotten campaign. The dapper North American B-25 was particularly well known for its role in delivering a morale-boosting one-way strike on Japan immortalized in Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.”

Another review of our show in Sioux Falls.

" Caught your presentation at KFSD over this past weekend.

A big BRAVO ZULU to you and your gang. The airshow here will not be held for a few years. At that time [assuming I am still present] I'd like to talk with the group about how it was back then.

Until then, take care and keep your airspeed up. Check six

*REMINDER* The Cavanaugh Flight Museum performance includes pyro. Do not be alarmed if there are flames. In this act the pilot has been shot down, the odds are against him. He calls for help, and you can see the daring rescue LIVE! Pyro, gun runs, and a harrowing airlift into a UH-1 Helo are all part of the thrills, expertly narrated and choreographed.

We just returned from performing our Vietnam Search and rescue act at Sioux Falls,SD. Estimated over 80K people each day. Our act was the first time they had ever had Pyro at their airshow. Some of the comments were great:
“It was an amazing show! Thanks to all involved! The Vietnam reenactment was heart wrenching and so amazing to watch!!! Thanks to all! Can't wait for the next one!”

“I was telling my 3 year old granddaughter that they were trying to save the guy by the orange smoke. Afterward she asked if the guy was ok!”

With aircraft like the F-4, B-52, and SR-71 patrolling the skies, the United States Air Force was well into the jet age by the time of the Vietnam War. However, propeller-driven A-1 Skyraiders were still called on to perform some of the war’s most dangerous jobs.

We saw your show at the Sioux Falls Airshow on Saturday! Just wanted to say "WOW". My husband is a disabled Vietnam vet and we have friends that were chopper pilots. This was the best part of the show for us! Thank you!!! Fly safe :)
