Yesterday, Feb. 19th, 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the two-day assault on Riva Ridge by the 10th Mtn. Division. It's on occasions like these that we all miss those honorable men who played such a pivotal role in WWII, and indeed in our Nation's post-WWII history. The bonds men form in war are unparalleled. Here we have a great picture of Adams' very own Band of Brothers maintaining that bond later in life. These gentlemen are, of course, all veterans of the famous 10th Mountain Division and served with distinction fighting the Germans in Italy during WWII. Front to back: Bill Linscott, Bernie Neveau, Jeddie Brooks, Frank Prejsnar, Dr. Valmore cross, and Art Bourdon. All 6 of these men earned the Bronze Star for valor. Linscott, Neveau, Prejsnar, Brooks, and Bourdon also received the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Lest we forget.

A few pins in the collection that are currently not on display in the museum; a few little Thunderbolt novelty pins, a pin from the famous Groswold ski company, and a few Mt. Greylock Ski Club pins. Pictured in the undated photo are members of the Mt. Greylock Ski Club. From right is Ed Koening, then Bernard Bonnivier, and 3rd from right in the fur coat and Tyrolean hat is Jim Snell. Apparently Snell drove an open top sedan all winter, thus the fur coat. 3rd from left is MGSC capt. William "Stuffy" McInnis.

A few people asked about the names of the skiers in the picture on the Purple Mtn. Majesty post yesterday. I do not have a print of that picture that is named. Looking to see if anybody can help fill the missing names. Using a different picture in which I do have the names, I think I identified most of them. Can anybody help with the others. Pic #1 with names....left to right...Bud Tosk, Walt Bieniek, Leo Felere, Marcil Felere, Ralph Anthony Jr., Gerard Gardner, Robert Ashton, George Verow, George Nuttall, Bernie Neveau. Using that info, I identified who I could in the 2nd pic, but missed a few...left to right...Bud Tosk, Ralph Anthony, Jr., Robert Ashton, unknown, Marcil Filere, Gerard Gardner (kneeling), unknown, unknown, Lester Horton, unknown, George Verow.

Purple Mountain Majesty was pulled from Youtube last year over some perceived copyrights issues. We resolved those and just re-uploaded the film. Hard to believe it's been 25 years since it was produced. Now with Chapters in the Youtube description for easy navigation.

A nice THEN and NOW pic of the Thunderbolt. Here we see George Verow checking his speed slightly before dropping into the Big Bend. The Big Bend is one of the steepest sections of the Thunderbolt...turning slightly to the right, but sloping to the left. George Verow was a member of the Ski Runners of Adams and cut quite a dashing figure on skis. The NOW pic is taken in almost the same exact location. The hills in the background reveal that not much has changed since the 1930's.

A neat artist's concept of the proposed 1970's ski area in the Glen and on the lower slopes of Mt. Greylock. The buildings look like they are about the same spot as the new construction currently going on in the Glen.

A nice photo of the Ski Runners of Adams taken in 1940 after having just beaten Dartmouth for the second time in as many years in the team category of the Massachusetts State Downhill Championship. Who can name all 5 racers in the pic?
