Mediums & Process
Betsy works primarily in acrylic painting on canvas, often incorporating collage elements or found objects to add layers of interest. She is also a sculptor, creating Old World Santas and Women of a Wider World. Each piece is hand-built from high-fire clay, with color added through carefully applied acrylic stains.

Inspiration
Her paintings are inspired less by what a place looks like and more by how it feels. In particular, she draws from her deep love of Lake Michigan, capturing its mood and spirit—most often on stormy or overcast days rather than bright and sunny ones. Her sculpture work grows simply from a love of making; the Santas, which she has crafted for over forty years, and the women, for more than thirty, continue to delight collectors and audiences alike.

Featured Work
Betsy does not point to one “must-see” piece, but rather sees her work as an evolving body of exploration that spans decades.

Why the Sheds?
This year, Betsy is exhibiting in the sheds because she loves the concept of an art space that breaks from the traditional gallery model. The sheds offer artists the chance to share their work outside of one-off shows and invite the community to connect with art in a new way. As the manager of Blue House Art Square and someone who helped bring the sheds project to life, Betsy knew she had to be part of it.
