The museum holds a permanent collection of close to 2,000 objects. In addition to regular exhibitions drawn from the collection and other exhibitions by contemporary guest artists, the museum is the custodian of, "The Prophetic Quest", the stained glass legacy of artist Jacob Landau. Created especially for the space the 10 towering windows were installed in the synagogue's main sanctuary between 1972 and 1974.

There is not much any of us can to do to support Israel now or help get the hostages released. So I sent two emails. One to Senator Fetterman to thank him for his unwavering support for Israel. Loved when he said, "How can you have a two state solution when one party won't even acknowledge the other's right to exist?"
I also emailed the White House to let the President know how disappointed I am in the shift in his support away from Israel. It is very sad. Please add your voices if you agree with me. Send emails. It is one power we have.

Today, Al Gilens is a guest artist in residence in the Arts Alive Gallery. He shared his recycled art project with the children. The children learned about how many boxes are put out weekly in the trash. He asked the children where do cardboard boxes come from? The children were able to answer his questions with all kinds of answers relating to trees and paper. Next week, the children will be creating an art project about recycling inspired by Al's art project that is on display in the Arts Alive Gallery.

On Tuesday, March 28th our artists in resident, Rhea and Robert Dennis worked with the children in the pre-school creating posters on sticks inspired from Rhea and Robert's artworks. Rhea paints beautiful pictures inspired by nature on handmade paper. She mounted a piece of handmade paper on each of the poster boards for the students to feel the texture. Robert's colorful illustrations that he did for Sesame Street magazine were also the inspiration for the children. Rhea and Robert's artworks exhibited in our gallery are a beautiful combination of color and images that express happiness around us. The children had a fun time and created beautiful drawings on their posters.
The children paraded around the Myers Library. Rita Rosen Poley (Arts Alive Gallery Director) put on music using a record player and the children were very curious because they never saw a record player. The music was delightful!
Our Arts Alive Gallery offers the pre-school children an opportunity to meet working artists. They learn about what inspirers the artists and then they get to create art with our artist in residents.
Our next artist in resident will be Alvin Gilens who is a photographer.
We are. looking forward to his residency.

BACKGROUND: Temple Judea Museum Artists Collaborative
In 2006 the Temple Judea Museum formed the Collaborative in order to promote and showcase the presence of member artists. Through programming, exhibitions and seminars the museum (TJM) and Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel (KI), where the museum is located, have continued to convey the vitality and vision of these talented people. Member artists consult, curate exhibitions and exhibit their own work as well as network to bring other artists into the world of TJM. This exhibition marks the first time Collaborative members have exhibited as a group outside of the TJM gallery.

AN EXCLUSIVE INVITATION FOR SPECIAL FRIENDS OF THE TEMPLE JUDEA MUSEUM
Looking for a safe – socially distanced – outing? Reserve your private gallery visit to see the museum’s current, fun, exhibition. A large Hepa filter adds extra protection and the gallery is cleaned daily.

HOW TO RESERVE YOUR VISIT: The exhibition continues through the end of March and is open when the synagogue is open. Call 215-887-8700 to make an appointment.

A description of the exhibition:
Signs of Our Jewish Times
Objects of SIGNAGE from the collection that have never, or seldom, been seen before are on display. What constitutes a “sign”? Admittedly, our definition is quite broadly interpreted. See for yourself. What do you think? The original early 20th century carved and painted wood sign of the Sde Dov airport in pre-State Israel hangs along with a poster advertising a performance of Shaindele the Female Cantor, and alongside a signed poster of Liza Minelli for her appearance at Hesch’s (Jewish-style) Steak House. Also included are anti-Semitic and anti-religion posters created after the Russian Revolution, political campaign posters and pins, comic book art, stamps, folk art, Judaica, photographs, Women’s League pins, advertisements and much more. I am excited about the visual conversations these disparate “signs” might stimulate for you, your friends and family.

NOTES: We decided to let these objects of SIGNAGE speak for themselves. SO, NO LABELS, except to recognize donors where they are known. However, there are gallery guides with interesting background information. Also, the exhibition continues in the lobby showcases near the sanctuary entrance.
