Thursday, June 15: Save the Date for our Juneteenth Commemoration at the Washington State History Museum! From 5:30–8:00 PM bring your friends and family to experience an opportunity to honor the significance of Juneteenth.

This FREE event will feature members of the African-American Writers' Alliance, reading from original works inspired by items from the WSHS collection and the historical significance of Juneteenth.

That's not all! In collaboration with Write253, hear local youth writers and try some letterpress printing, too.

But wait, there's more! We're thrilled to announce the official release of Black Washington, the one-of-a-kind app that connects us with the remarkable stories, historic landmarks, and influential icons that have shaped Washington's Black history. Be among the first to try the app!

See you there!

Our most interesting find to date - a hay spear developed in the late 1800's. a rope was tied to the trigger & the spear was dropped from the hay loft into a bale of hay. Then the rope trigger was pulled. Two 'spears" were triggered into the hay bale so it could lifted into the loft. It is cast iron & heavy. pretty cool.
