Remember Pearl Harbor! 🇺🇸 💔 🇺🇸
Louisiana’s last known Pearl Harbor survivor passed away just a couple of months ago after celebrating his 100th birthday. Mr. Joe Richard enlisted in the Navy when he was just 16 years old. He was soon assigned to the USS Rigel which was docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was enjoying grapes for breakfast on December 7, 1941, when the attack began. In the following days, Mr. Joe helped save 33 people from the USS Arizona and three from the USS Oklahoma. It was an honor to have known him.

We are grateful for all those who are currently serving, or have served, in the Armed Forces. Missing holidays at home and special occasions with family and friends isn’t easy, but we appreciate those sacrifices made.

Day 2 of the 3rd Annual Veteran Heritage Festival was absolutely wonderful! Due to the forecast, we moved everything indoors, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s mood. A steady stream of visitors, including scout troops, families, veterans, and active-duty military personnel enjoyed our exhibits and presenters all day long!

LEH, with the support of the NEH & the State of Louisiana, has awarded 29 Rebirth Grants totaling $119,232 to organizations in 14 parishes.

‼️Don’t miss out- our 3rd Annual Veteran Heritage Festival- happening TODAY‼️

Yesterday was a phenomenal success! Over 700 people, including student of all ages, experienced great presenters and fantastic hands-on activities- like trying on WWI gas masks, jumping into a WWII jeep, washing clothes by hand, learning a Civil War-era dance, as well as handling some of the National Guard’s newest weapons systems. Come out today and bring the family!

Thank you, City of Abbeville, Louisiana - City Hall, for sending out your crew to install our brand-new signs. It’s bittersweet seeing the old one go and the new one installed, but both represent big dreams and a lot of hard work!

Our Story

The Louisiana Military Museum completed construction of its facility at the Chris Crusta Memorial Airport in Abbeville, Louisiana, in 2009. Since then, the museum has continued to expand its horizons and seek new opportunities to honor veterans and connect people with their past. In 2018, statewide budget cuts forced the museum to become self-funded. We need your help!

To continue our tradition of honoring veterans through our museum exhibits, tours, and special events, we are asking private and corporate donors to consider supporting the Louisiana Military Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law and directly support the museum and its operations.
