Upcoming!! Friday, May 22, 2026 at 7pm 📖✨ Please join us for a book talk about post-photography by Natasha Chuk () followed by a conversation with artist Franzy Lamprecht ( )

(Talk in English + all are welcome!)

About the Talk

As images become infinite and untethered from cameras, New York City-based media theorist, arts writer, and independent curator Natasha Chuk traces the evolving influence of photography in a world saturated by digitally produced art. Natasha will share ideas from her recently published book, “Photo Obscura: The Photographic in Post-Photography” (Intellect, 2025), which reflects on the radical transformations of photography in the digital age, where AI, computational media, and hybrid practices challenge traditional definitions of the photographic image.

https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/P/bo257335397.html

A conversation with Franziska Lamprecht will follow. Franzy is a New York-based artist currently living and working in Taipei and part of eteam (with Hajoe Moderegger), a two-person artist collaborative whose research-based projects explore the conceptual possibilities and connections between humans, infrastructures, and the more-than-human world.

About the Speakers

Natasha Chuk is a media theorist, writer, lecturer, and independent curator whose work explores the historical, philosophical, and creative dimensions of media and technology with a focus on how they shape perception, identity, aesthetics, and cultural imagination. She writes about and teaches courses in the areas of film, photography, video game studies, new media art, and media theory in New York City. www.natashachuk.com

Franziska Lamprecht is an interdisciplinary artist, who started writing as an extension of the long-term, process-based works she initiated together with Hajoe Moderegger under the name eteam. Working across video, performance, participatory installations, and long-form writing—including novels and novellas—eteam experiments with how technology and storytelling shape our human experiences. Franziska lives currently in Taipei to continue eteam’s project: Hand-Held Devices, which finds and forges connections between 布袋戲hand-puppets and smart phones. www.meineigenheim.org/portfolio/

From Christopher Loomis’ use of craft in shaping materials to reflect philosophical notions of perception, to Li Jhao Ci’s manipulation of materials to probe personal and national identity, “Help! We are Rocks” is an exhibition that defies regularities —intertwining both artists’ shared love of improvisation, cultural commentary, performance, language, and rock music. In collaborating on this show, the artists express that creating this exhibition has been akin to sharing a soul while taking turns to write the lyrics of a rock and roll song.

www.lijhaoci.com

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art、San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design、Yerba Buena Center for the Arts、漢寶德紀念館等機構展出,並參與美國、英國、印尼與臺灣的藝術計畫與駐村。 www.christopherloomis.net

Having cultivated cacti for nearly a decade, 李兆起 Li Jhao Ci draws metaphorical connections between these foreign plants and notions of outsiders, invasion, transplantation, and grafting. The cactus serves as a primary material in Li’s installations, where different species are grafted together to form deformed communities—symbolizing Taiwan as an “imagined community” pieced together from both Eastern and Western concepts and multiple national identities. Li’s practice is also inspired by foreign literary texts—particularly Russian and Latin American novels that depict the complexities of nationhood, war, and colonial history. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and poetry, Li explores the tensions between the individual and the collective—adopting irony, satire, and metaphor to respond to contemporary life and political discourse.

About the Artist

Born in Taitung, Taiwan in 1994, 李兆起 Li Jhao-Ci graduated in 2017 from Da-Yeh University with a double major in Visual Communication Design and Plastic Arts. He will receive his MFA in Painting from the Dept of Fine Arts at Taipei National University of the Arts in 2026. Li works primarily with text and painting, and incorporates succulent plants into spatial installations to explore the concept of grafting. His work reflects the complexities of nationhood, war, and colonial histories, turning these inquiries toward Taiwan’s geopolitical condition. Li will present a solo show at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in October 2026. Recent exhibitions include Outstanding Art Prize of the School of Fine Arts (Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, 2025); Avoiding the Trap Set by Angels (Crash, Hong Kong, 2025); On the Savage Highway (Zit-Dim Art Space, Tainan, 2025); The King’s Tail Is a Donkey’s Tail (solo, ER Gallery, Taipei, 2025); and Want to Hook on to Some Trees and Birds (solo, Glitch, Taichung, 2024). www.lijhaoci.com

In Christopher Loomis’ work, craft and improvisation hold material and spiritual meaning. Trained as a furniture-maker, Christopher’s sculptures and drawings take as a launching point what French philosopher Marcel Merleau-Ponty considers to be “the primacy of perception”— in which knowledge is primarily obtained through the bodily senses. Wood, metal, light and stone are elements that have history and meaning. Timber is far from the tree but lives on. Brick is no longer part of a wall, but among river stones. The phenomenon of light attracts and guides these journeys. The capturing of sound is a glimpse into the story of matter. In his melding of perceptual and sensory processes, Loomis transforms figurative observation and pictorial language into what Merleau-Ponty describes as a “continued birth” in which at every moment, we open our eyes to the world for the first time.

About the Artist

Christoper Loomis is an artist based in Taipei, Taiwan. His work explores themes of nature, phenomenology, figurative representation and consciousness. Through the process of craft traditions and material explorations, his work collects disparate parts of reality and recombines them into other worlds. Christopher has exhibited in venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Han Pao-Teh museum, and has participated in projects and residencies in the United States, England, Indonesia and Taiwan. He is faculty at Shih Chien School of Architecture in Taipei and has held teaching positions at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and has been a visiting critic at Tainan National University for the Arts. He also is the founder of the sound project 日立魔杖 and performs regularly throughout Taiwan. www.christopherloomis.net
