這幅畫是延續 2024 年魯賓博物館 (Rubin Museum of Art) 展覽「Reimagine: Himalayan Art now」系列的最新力作。

Artwork :
Bhuvaneshwori|Acrylic on canvas|76x51 cm|2026

Bhuvaneshwori is the fourth deity of the Dasha Mahavidyas in Hindu Shaktism, whose core symbolic significance lies in cosmic sovereignty and maternal nourishment. This painting is the latest masterpiece continuing the "Reimagine: Himalayan Art now" exhibition series from the Rubin Museum of Art in 2024.

In the artwork, her sacred attributes are meticulously preserved: a pristine crescent moon upon her head, three eyes filled with joy, and a graceful four-armed posture. Two hands form the gestures of bestowing boons and dispelling fear, while the other two hold a noose and an elephant goad. The noose symbolizes binding the universe with love and energy, and the goad represents guidance and the shattering of attachments.

The background is rendered in a profound starry blue, dotted with twinkling stars and haloed planets. Bhuvaneśvarī’s face shines with a warm golden hue; set against her turquoise topknot, bright pink garments, and the sparkling lotus pond below, she exudes an exceptionally serene and tranquil aura.

Ultimately, the artist strips away the aloofness of traditional religious iconography, endowing the goddess with round, expressive eyes and a gentle smile, imbued with a touch of playful accessibility. Like an ethereal sprite guarding the cosmos, she conveys a powerful, all-embracing maternal energy, bestowing upon the viewer a stabilizing inner peace, abundant prosperity, and the comforting blessing for life to bloom freely like a graceful lotus.

In this solo exhibition, Nepalese artist Shraddha Shrestha employs a highly distinctive visual language, weaving Himalayan mythological imagery and religious symbols together with 90s pop animation aesthetics.

Delving deeper, one discovers a profound exploration of feminine power behind these vivid and playful characters. By contrasting the societal norms imposed on women with the public reverence for goddesses, she seeks to break established frameworks and rethink the significance of faith in contemporary society.

Grounded in her memories of growing up in the ancient city of Patan and her rich background in street art, the artist reinterprets Hindu and Buddhist deities. In doing so, she unfolds a profound cross-cultural dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary, injecting new vitality into Nepalese contemporary art.

Artist Statement:

“Three eyes, ten hands, four heads, blue skin, and other extraordinary physical features are common attributes of religious figures in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Yet, upon closer observation, many of these characteristics bear a striking resemblance to the way extraterrestrial beings, aliens, and monsters are portrayed in Western animation and film. Characters from works such as The Powerpuff Girls and Monsters, Inc., for example, share many visual traits with mythological figures found throughout South Asia.

I grew up in a society deeply influenced by Hindu and Buddhist traditions, where cosmology, spirituality, and inherited beliefs form an integral part of everyday life. As a result, I began to imagine that the gods and mythological beings I grew up hearing about might actually come from outer space—that perhaps these deities reside somewhere within a distant and eternal galaxy.

This idea has become the starting point for the characters I create, and a concept I continue to explore through my work.”

Tansbao Gallery artist Amber Boy is currently presenting a solo showcase at Hotel MVSA. An amber artist, collector, and paleontologist, Huang has dedicated many years to transforming amber specimens dating from tens to hundreds of millions of years ago from scientific research materials into contemporary artworks.

The exhibition transforms the hotel’s corridors into a vertical art museum, featuring 33 works from series including Tree of Life, Origin Print Series, Amber Palace, Tiger Lord, Journey Through Time, and the newly launched Amber Boy. Through these works, visitors are invited to explore a world where nature, life, and time intertwine, experiencing the unique dialogue between art and science.

A major highlight of the exhibition is the debut of two new works, "Amber Boy Sugar" and "Amber Boy Honey". As the first releases in the Amber Boy series, the artist drew inspiration from one of the most familiar companions of childhood—the robot. Designed as both collectible and playful artworks, the figures feature bodies constructed from intricate watch movements, gears, and metal components, symbolizing the passage of time and the cycles of life. Their translucent amber-colored heads represent the human brain as a time machine, carrying memories and emotions while moving freely between past and future. By combining the precision of mechanical structures with the warmth of amber, the artist transforms his enduring sense of curiosity and wonder into tangible stories about time.

"Amber Boy Sugar" and "Amber Boy Honey" also offer a glimpse into the future development of the Amber Boy series. The artist plans to introduce twelve characters inspired by different amber tones and watch-dial designs. Several major series, including Amber Boy, will also be presented at the Tansbao Gallery booth during Art Taipei later this year, offering audiences a deeper journey into Huang’s imaginative world shaped through amber.

Tansbao Gallery is thrilled to present Shraddha Shrestha’s solo exhibition, “Otherworldly Ordinaries,” opening on July 8.

Rooted in her Newar heritage in Nepal, Shrestha’s practice captures the tension between real-world constraints on women and the spiritual reverence for female deities. Using vibrant colors and a playful visual vocabulary, she blends mythology, pop culture, and daily life to reshape the narrative around feminine power. This thematic focus follows her celebrated feature in the Rubin Museum’s 2024 landmark exhibition, “Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now.”

Featuring her latest works, the exhibition builds a poetic world where the sacred and the modern coexist, prompting us to rethink the diverse dimensions of feminine strength in contemporary culture.

Artwork :

Tripura Sundari|Acrylic on canvas|76x51 cm|2026

Inspired by the deity among the ten Mahavidyas, “Tripura Sundari” embodies cosmic beauty and the consciousness that rules the three realms of time.

The artist faithfully retains the goddess’s traditional iconography: four arms bearing a noose (attachment), a goad (anger), a sugarcane bow (the mind), and a flowery arrow (desire), all resting atop a pastel Sri Yantra. Under Shrestha’s playfully innocent brush, these profound, esoteric philosophies are effortlessly transformed into vibrant and approachable contemporary imagery.

Tansbao Gallery is pleased to present "Otherworldly Ordinaries: Recent Works by Shraddha Shrestha," a solo exhibition by represented artist Shraddha Shrestha. Among the few Nepali women artists active on the international contemporary art scene, Shrestha has developed a distinctive visual language that brings together Himalayan religious traditions, mythology, and the visual culture of 1990s animation. Through vibrant colors and playful imagery, she reimagines sacred narratives for contemporary audiences.

Born and raised in the historic city of Patan, Nepal, Shrestha graduated from the Glasgow School of Art and is currently based in Kathmandu, where she works as a visual artist, illustrator, and muralist. Since 2011, she has been actively involved in Kathmandu’s street art movement and is a member of Virangana Comics, the collective behind Nepal’s first all-women comics anthology.

The exhibition presents a new body of work developed following Shrestha’s participation in "Reimagining Himalayan Art Now," the Rubin Museum’s 20th-anniversary exhibition in 2024. In these recent paintings, the artist imagines outer space as a realm inhabited by deities, protectors, and mythological beings. Drawing on visual parallels between the exaggerated forms of Hindu and Buddhist figures and the fantastical creatures of animation and science fiction, she transforms sacred iconography into colorful, approachable characters that exist between mythology and popular culture.

Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 🐲

In Ke Lin-Yen’s artwork "The Legend of the Dragon," Ke creates a refreshing summer landscape with a jade-green river flowing through steep valleys, dotted with vibrant dragon boats.

Look closely, and you will notice a humorous contrast: Ke places traditional dragon boats alongside the modern logo of the anime streaming site "Bahamut." While eastern dragons represent sacred beliefs, western dragons (like Bahamut) are often seen as mythical monsters. By bringing together traditional culture and today's digital world, Ke playfully breaks the boundaries between the old and the new, mixing serious art with everyday entertainment.

Ke Lin Yen (b. 1993) received his Ph.D. from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University. Inspired by Taiwan’s landscapes, he has developed a distinctive contemporary ink painting style through his signature “Seaweed Texture Stroke” technique and vibrant use of color. His solo exhibition will be on view at the Keelung Museum of Art from November 30 to December 20. Stay tuned 👀
