ON SITE! Admira Gallery is now presenting at Frieze Seoul 2026, as part of Material Practice, with “Light Painting × Light Sculpture” — a curatorial dialogue between Japanese contemporary artists Tomoya Tsukamoto × Atsuro Miyako.
For this presentation, we deliberately challenge the conventional ways in which painting and sculpture are displayed. Tsukamoto’s paintings leave the wall and move into the center of the exhibition space, while Miyako’s sculptural works, constructed through light and polarizing materials, enter the walls like luminous images.
The dialogue between the two artists also unfolds through radically different approaches to material — on one side, color is generated through pigment, beginning with the three primary colors of red, blue, and yellow and the history of painting; on the other, color is generated through material and light, as polarizing materials, transparent media, and LEDs transform invisible physical phenomena into visible light.
In particular, Tsukamoto’s Swimming in the universe, presented at Frieze Seoul, mixes the three primary colors into a near-achromatic black. This creates another intriguing contrast with Miyako’s practice, which uses material to reveal patterns hidden within light:
Tomoya Tsukamoto conceals color within the flow of black,
while Atsuro Miyako reveals patterns hidden within white light.
From traditional pigments to industrial and optical materials, from surface to space, from the visible to the invisible, and from art to design, through our presentation at Frieze Seoul we hope to open up new ways of seeing and experiencing contemporary art.
